For those that may be after this 805 BB has OB for $1838, new is $1999.
Not the lowest but the low price($1500) has not replicated, unlikely to do so imo.

There are slight differences between the Onkyo RZ70, for the most part they are the same.

FYI this is the one Pioneer that does not have global crossovers.
Has 4 sub outs, 3 & 4 run parallel/mono.

This series sounded out the box nice and rich years back, but they had major issues. Likely they fixed those issues. Not that the "sound" out of an amp is really something I consider these days.

Looks like a good unit. But as mentioned, it costs a bit more than the RZ70 or pass sale prices. Of course, we can't expect those prices to come back with current conditions such as the tariffs affecting retail product prices. I am waiting for the Marantz Cinema 50 or a Denon since they come with the A1EVO.

If you haven't, might check in store Best Buy(s) near you.
As reported they are closing some of their Magnolia section.
Clearing out products, people reported seeing/getting the 3800 for $679 and the Cinema 50 for $1050.

No luck here I would have grabbed the 50 for that price to replace my 3800!

I would stay away from the 805, especially w/comparable units in the RZ70 and the DRX 8.4. Pioneer pulled its license from the PAC group so make sure you understand the risk risk of not having future product support!

What license are you talking about?
Stay away because of this supposedly license issue?

They are supporting the product and you have a full factory 3 year warranty as well

Additionally, there was a Dirac bass control bug that was fixed with this LX805 the RZ70 and Integra 8.4

I personally own the Pioneer LX805...if I recall correctly I paid about $1450 late last year

This unit handle all but the heaviest speaker loads at reference volumes and not break a sweat

Outstanding one box solution if you dont have the desire to go with separates.

I can get the Marantz 40 for $400 cheaper. Is this better than the Marantz 40 & worth the extra $400?

Is that Marantz 40 brand new? If so, I'd rather get that, especially since it's slated to get Dirac ART capability towards the end of the year (additional cost of course)!

It depends on what features are important to you.
Assuming you have no brand preference & they are both OB/refurb.

There are a few features that stand out.
This powers all 11 channels internally & has 25 watts more per channel.
The 40 needs external power to do it, you can assign channels & has preamp mode.

This includes Dirac Live Full Bandwidth RC, the 40 has purchase access and also has access to A1EVO.
If Dirac is important, the 40 will have access to Dirac's latest RC(ART) very soon.
I would point out, for an extra $80 to the $400 difference would add DL & DLBC to the 40 right now(until the 30th).

The 40 has 4 independent sub outs, this has 4 but 2 run parallel/mono.
This has balanced outs for L/R fronts & two subs.

Here is a comparison: https://www.zkelectronics.com/com...h-america/

I own the unit in this thread

I am also demoing the Cinema 40 right now on my home

This unit is closer to the Cinema 30… which I also own… in performance

I would say there is substantial power difference. These units actually outperform their posted power ratings

If you are not planning on using external amplification my choice would be pioneer all day

If planning on using external amplification and paying for all the Dirac licenses is something you plan on doing this has the advantage is Dirac ART availability

This is assuming Dirac ART adds a meaningful difference . I do not own a Storm Audio product so I can't comment on what Dirac ART adds in my personal ownership evaluation

if 2 of the 4 sub outs are mono, then it really has 3 independent sub outs right?

It does not. There are 2 pairs of parallel SW channels. Think of it as 2 Y-splitters but internal to the AVR. That's still only 2 independent SW signals!

I assume when saying "this" you meant the 40(denon/marantz) since this will not have access to ART.

Within in that "all" licenses, Dirac's subwoofer/bass license is a paid option for everyone, including this.

If you use any subwoofers in your system, Dirac's RC(DLBC) is one of the best in my experience.
As a matter of fact you will need DLBC to upgrade to ART for that very reason(per Dirac).

Here is Dirac's explanation of what ART offers:https://www.dirac.com/live/art-technology/

On a side note you said you own this(LX805),RZ70,Cinema 30,Cinema 40,RZ50.
Did you add DLBC to any of those, if so which ones?
Did it add any meaningful difference to the sonic performance?

FYI there is a 20% off sale going on right now for "all" Dirac licenses for Denon & Marantz products until June 30th.

Do you know if there was a firmware update issued to fix the DLBC bug? I just checked and my receiver is still on the old firmware. I have been following the discussion on avsforum but didn't see any updates on the topic. I'd appreciate it if you can point me to the update discussion. Thanks.
