1) they reversed the order of the ticket options. basic (least expensive used to be on the right), it's now on the left. If you're used to just power scanning the right-most column for the lowest price, you'll need to check the left column now.
2) promo DOES NOT include basic fares - but they still show up in the results. Be careful with what you purchase so that it qualifies.

They've just jacked all their prices up again and even the points difference between basic and wanna get away plus is twice as expensive as it was just a couple months ago,, at least at the flights I've looked at.

Fly it or don't, you won't affect this from happening. They're never going back to Herb's airline. He's rolling in his grave at the moment.
Not entirely true.
The FAQs state you just need to book "non basic" fares to EARN the pass .....then you can book basic to use it. It makes more sense this way as they then get the most $$ up front.
Q: If I book a reservation for travel between September 8-November 15, 2025, and purchase the Basic fare will I be able to add a Companion?
A: There is no fare product restriction on the use of your promotional Companion Pass. The fare product restriction that excludes Basic fares is for the qualifying flights you purchase to earn the promotional Companion Pass.

You're correct that they're not going back, at least in my opinion. That said, it's still an airline that offers decent value. Yes, we all hate it when our "entitlements" are taken away, but you have to look at the bigger picture. Southwest policies were extremely customer friendly. That sounds like a really good thing, but from a profit perspective, it's hard to compete against other airlines when you are offering so much more at lower prices. To your comment on stock price, it was getting crushed because of those benefits, not because of the change to the policy.
Yes, they removed free bags for everyone and made their prices more in line with competition. However, they still retain some of the benefits previously offered. No other airline is going to give you a flight credit for a basic ticket if you cancel as few as 10 minutes before the flight. They still refund 100% of the frequent flyer points no matter what ticket class purchased so long as you cancel it. Also, their frequent flyer flights, for fares under a certain dollar value, are still better than the rest of the industry. United, American, Delta, and others all may charge 12.5 to 15,000 points for a typical one-way that costs $100. On Southwest, the frequent flyer points are value-based, so the cheaper the flight the lower the points. In this case, you might get the Southwest flight for 7000 pts. To be sure, on higher ticket prices, the other airlines often provide better frequent flyer point conversion rates than Southwest. So your mileage may vary.
The changes due finally give Southwest credit card members some value other than the initial sign up bonus. Of course, this comes at the cost of removing benefits for others.
In all, it is certainly one large downgrade. However, if all you knew about Southwest is what they offer today versus other airlines, and had no idea about what they offered in the past, they would still seem like the best option out there.
Every time an airline changes their policies, there is uproar. However, people continue to fly. Delta's frequent flyer point requirements have gone through the roof over the past decade. But nobody complains about it anymore because the changes happened long ago. This too shall pass.
***And SWA, my RRs number is xxxxxxx so you can send me my free lifetime companion pass any time
This is certainly true for various routes. But, is 100% YMMV. During their sales, Southwest drives down the price of competitors for certain routes. At other times, competitors might offer better pricing. I've also seen times where the same route I normally fly via United is somehow half price on American. Then, the next week, those two companies switched their prices and American is double the price of United. It's all part of the algorithmic game.
Don't want to pay extra? No problem, you and your family will be scattered randomly across the plane.
