I'd take $70 cash off over a free $100 aio cooler that I wouldn't want to use anyways

I've heard that the new AMD CPU 10xxx will have an insane GHz (7) according to a leak. Not sure when it will release. So, the buyer should just keep an open mind.
They aren't going back to three digits like Ati, intel, and nvidia?

Yeah, and Intel will have an insane 52 cores. But also tarrifs may come into play and the price may shoot up. Or we can all be nuked and you never would've got to enjoy any modern CPU. So the point is pretty moo (like a cow's opinion).

why not just the the plain 9950x? Is an X3D chip really needed at this level?

EDIT: looks like the only difference is an extra 64MB L3 Cache. So I guess for gamers, that's needed.

Although running games with the plain x version would probably still be fine with a proper graphics card.

So wouldn't it make sense to put the difference towards a better discreet GPU?

Define "needed".

Most people will be fine with a $200 mini PC.

This is a chip that people will buy to drive 1 million SPM on Factorio.

Or max their frame rates with a 5090.

Not for driving Excel.

one should do a good thoroughly research before buying this cpu. It is limited to use the 3D cache only with 8 cores, BIOS settings and Windows drivers to get it right most of the time. You will never use the 16-core in parallel with the 3D cache. Plus, you will benefit it only if playing games at 1080p which is 20 years old technology. I game at 4K and the graphics are absolutely beautiful on cs2 and dota2. Btw my pc is i8700k (6-core) cpu paired with 3090Ti FE and 64GB DDR4 ram @ 4GHz.My pc is a beast.

Your PC is not bad. But not enough for everyone. I play fps at locked 240hz @ 4k. X3d is the only option for the past 3 years. Also 9950x3d allows me to quickly iterate my DNN models. Used x3d on numa cpu layout is very easy nowadays.
