Instapots can be more versatile as it has the stainless steel inner pot. However, this Cuckoo is more specialized for rice cooking. Although you can, technically use it for other food types similar to Instapot, it's probably not recommended. This brand is one of, if not, the most popular brand in South Korea.

Because of the size. Some people prefer their counter tops to be manageable. 6 cups are usually more popular and fits a family of 4 perfectly.

I too was using the insta mainly for rice. Switched to the highest model of zoji. The pressure induction one. Got it on ebay open box for 250. I've leveled up my rice making game even though I'd been doing great rice in the isnta. The induction pressure cooking rice makers are the way to go if you're looking for perfection.
If you cook rice once in a while and can't tell the difference between instant rice and cooked rice then you should not bother with a smart rice cooker. One of the 20 dollar ones you find at Walmart will be good enough for you
Thanks! I started looking at different Zoji models and decided induction (w/o pressure) would be best for me just due to how much more expensive the pressure models are. I am interest mostly in brown/GABA brown rice and would like to toy around with steel cut oats too... now just gotta wait for a deal. Maybe prime day?

Not at all in the same price bracket, but I've enjoyed using the urlhasbeenblocked Rice cooker as an upgrade from Aroma, and it's been non-stick and working great the past year:
Makes rice in 30 minutes with the quick mode. This one has a turbo mode that they say slightly makes the rice chewier, so I can't see the value in this Cuckoo rice pressure cooker honestly, until I directly compare the rice quality.

Can't link it due to slickdeals I guess.

I'm tempted to get rid of my Instant Pot and buy this (or something similar). I only use the Instant Pot for rice and hard boiling eggs anyway.

Has anyone made that same swap and regretted it? The instant pot makes serviceable brown rice but not fantastic… and it is kind of a pain to clean and let dry out. The cook time of ~20m is nice though.

As an Asian who grew up eating rice (both white and brown Instant pot makes really just mediocre rice). Specialized rice cookers like this will do a much better job. If they're not pressurized, the texture of brown rice will obviously be more al dente (if that's your preference). Most Asians would prefer softer texture for brown rice, which is already pretty grainy, so pressure would be my choice.

Why would the MSRP of 6 cup (259.99) be higher than 10 cup(199.99) version?

Might be a price error but I bought the 10 cup. Retail is 279

edit Cancelled the 10 cup it's made in America

So I really want to know, what exactly makes these and Zoji so much better than any old rice cooker from say Walmart or Target? Genuinely want to know because my old Walmart one died and I really enjoyed the rice it made.

Has anyone tried to prepare sticky rice dishes with it? Does hot water spew from the lid, making a mess on the counter - I've yet found one without this problem?

My criteria for a good rice cooker is the ability to retain warm cooked rice after 48-96hrs. 96hrs is stretching it… but you'll know when a rice cooker is on its way out is after cooking it and it goes bad in less than 24 hrs on warm. You can sterilize it and maybe get it to last 24 hours… but it just spoils easily. Tried the non induction cuckoo to Ziroshis and they work good at first but then within a couple year or so, the rice spoil easily. Now we have the Cuckoo induction high pressure cooker. Pricey but it somehow it is able to keep the rice from spoiling > 48 hours and still taste good. It's worth its $$ price.
