This has decent reviews, excellent build quality, excellent battery life and a nice screen , downside is apparently this particular processor not performing particularly well.

I'm aware Qualcomm is new to the game and not every software is compatible, but is there some other issue?
Not an issue for 'most' consumers. VMware or VirtualBox last I heard can't run on their ARM processors. Certain AV and encryption programs are also not compatible.
You'd have to watch the Best Buy website like a hawk to try to get it though. It was popping in and out of stock when I got it but I haven't seen it available in a week (I was checking to see if I could get it shipped so I wouldn't need to drive 45 min to get it in store, but I never saw that option)

I got one of those shipped that was supposed to be excellent, and showed up bouncing around loose no charger in an oversized crumpled box. Over 9000 hours on the hard drive...

This is over a year of use. The possibility of a 2024 laptop being on for 9000 hrs, and then serviced in warranty by bestbuy, junked out (money returned to original customer within the 1yr), to THEN be put back as open box (only scenario I can think of that would cause it to be returned) is so slim this just smells like a lie.
Now, I will say that they do ship poorly when you get something from their return centers. But the last part is very hard to believe.

I'm not sure why you would think anyone would have a reason to lie about that. Mistake or error maybe but who would lie? All I can say is hwinfo and diskinfo both show 9785 hours now and 85% health. Checking warranty on asus showed it was expired and had some message to check with bestbuy like they know it is a bestbuy model, so it is likely older than a year. I assume it was shipped from a retail store based on tracking info. That one was from sherman oaks, CA, and I would have loved to keep it since it was only $330 but that many hours is insane.
I have bought several open box "excellent" shipped (different models), and about 75% have been clearly demos or poorly packaged with slight dings that probably happened due to shipping. Only one was in its original packaging like excellent should be, and luckily arrived in like new condition. I have had better luck with store open box pickups than shipped. I think one had labels like it was shipped back to the store from their geek squad repair center but was packed well in an air sleeve and overall good shape.

That means the SSD was more than likely swapped, it's insane (and statistically improbable) for a 2024 model to have that many hours. Most shipped models from from the Cali or Kentucky returns are packaged by people without thumbs so that makes sense - they don't seem to care much about packaging. The Air sleeves are the best as well as any that are double boxed. From my experience, in store pickups are way better than online, significantly so since you avoid the shipping issue
