R454b isn't super expensive (plus these units use such a TINY charge the qty doesn't matter at price per pound) but it is hard to get right now. Not the actual refrigerant but in the disposable cylinders used in the field; there is a tiny safety device used on the refrigerant cylinders which is in short supply. Without that relief valve, they cannot make the containers thus package the refrigerant. Companies that are buying 125lb tanks of refrigerant have zero issue getting the refrigerant and are selling r454b at normal prices. Soon none of this will be an issue when supply catches up to demand.

And like mitsured said....later R410A will be expensive as well.

Garvee support confirmed that this unit (and the 24k BTU I bought) come precharged (not lineset).

By the time you need refrigerant 410 will probably be as well.

This runs on R32 which doesn't have the same scarcity issue AFAIK.

I thought it ran on 454B? Are you sure?

Whatever you do, make sure you use NYLOG BLUE because you'll prob get leaks. I have 3 AUX units and they all needed nylog blue or else they leaked. So crazy. Anyway I have the 12K BTU of this and it works well. Also why care about 120v or 240v ? Both still need the same amount of lines pulled through conduit!
I thought the 115V units had a plug in that was attached to the head unit for plugging into an outlet? If you're already wired for 220 with a disconnect at the condenser, then that sounds like a headache.

This unit is 208v - 230v. I received the outdoor unit yesterday.
Wait so this says R32, not 454B? The listing on this is all jacked up then. I didn't want to deal with 454B but if it's R32 I might get a couple.

Is the coupon only good for the linked model? Are there coupons for the others?

I was messing with that the other day. It's good for the "new refrigerant" listed ones.

How do you install these in an apartment? Do you have to get permissions?

Uhhh..no?

Refrigerants have different toxicity and flammability ratings. R290 (propane) is highly flammable. Lots goes into making an R290 unit safe. Most haven't invested in this. R290 also doesn't work as well when the condenser and evaporator are far apart.

Most other hybrid refrigerants required after the AIM act all have high glide - meaning the evaporation happens over a range of temps. This makes leaking easier to occur and harder to detect. Once it's leaked, you can't just add to it because the blend is off. You have to evacuate and recharge.

For anyone worried about the high price of new refrigerants, that's valid…but as 410A, etc phase out they'll likely become much more expensive as supply dwindles too.

410 isn't going away for the next 20 years my dude. You can recharge old systems all day, and systems using 410 are still being installed everywhere as inventory clears. the k

I've been reading up and R32 doesn't belong to any one company so it's cheaper and sometimes R32 can be replaced with R410 if needed. R454B is patented by someone and it's a mixed refrigerant so you can't just top it up if it's leaking. I heard you have to remove all old refrigerant and then add new refrigerant back. Might not be a big deal on these mini splits since they take so little refrigerant but still, I'd rather just top up a smaller amount. I just had my old mini split checked for icing up, it wasn't leaking but the tech thought it was a little low so he added a few ounces of R410. He didn't even charge me for it because the trip charge covered it since it was such a small amount ...In that same situation with R454, I don't think that would have been possible.
