It only has a free app. The pro app is for landscapers who have pro irrigation controllers.

I feel like this must be a joke but in case it's not; Orbit is about the most common residential irrigation controller brand in the U.S.

Here's the (almost) same unit at Home Depot

Had this older model with manual controls and smart features: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D15HOIQ which died after 4 years. Then bought this one and been using it for 4 years with no issues so far. Both models use the same free app with same smart features. I don't think I've touched the manual controls on my older one in the 4 years of use before it died, outside of of initial setup. On this new one, I didn't miss the manual controls in last 4 years. The app on Android is hit and miss over time. It was absolute solid 8 years ago. Then notifications stopped working. At one point, even missed watering schedules. Now it is working but still misses notifications sometimes. Not sure if this was due to more security restrictions in newer Android version, or they hired worse software developers, or both.

How do you switch from manual sprinkler control system in the garage to this?

Its simple.
Take a picture of the old wiring and take note of the zone wires and common wires.
Unplug the old system
Unmount it off the wall.
Install the new on to the wall.
Plug in all the zone wires using reference from you picture you too.
Plug in 24v wire.
Then follow paper instructions to connect to wifi and device.

To make RainBird wi-fi compatable, you have to buy a separate $80+ module plug in.
Would the Orbit be an easy swap out ?

orbit is easy as any other irrigation system.

unplug 24v power
take a picture of the zone wires and any other wires on the old system before removing them

unmount the old system and set aside

reconnect all common and zone wires to same number zone and etc

plug in 24v power

and follow directions to connect to wifi etc.

I've had this for 4 years now. No issues. Easy guided setup and the app works well.Love that it tracks the weather and auto adjusts watering schedule. Much cheaper than the alternative raichio product and works perfectly fine.

I had one that just randomly died. I called and they said "is it a solid light on the button, yeah it's dead, dead". Seems to be fairly common. It was less than a year old, so they did send me a credit to purchase a new one from their site. I read that the WiFi units that also have manual controls are more reliable, so I spent a little more and purchased one of those with the credit. Solid customer service, questionable unit in my experience.
Rachios are known/prone to bricking after power outages. I had one die on me. I bought the second Rachio at Costco after reading reviews and in case this one dies too. Our house has frequent power outages during thunderstorms so I plugged it into a cheap Amazon APC and haven't had any problems since.

Is it doing all zones for 9 hours, or is it like 5 minutes on, 10 off, 5 on, 10 off, 5 on, per zone times 10 zones? Mine runs forever too, but it isn't using excessive water, just excessive time.
This- my Rachio alternates zones to allow for water to soak in and not run off into the gutter.

it's this. I've had a rachio for 5+ years. water usage is down. I use smart cycle. it hits each zone for 10-15 min total usually doing half the time on each zone and going around the zone circuit twice.

Ive had this for a few years. Works great. Easy to swap to. Uses weather service to hold off watering. Highly recommended. I can water each zone whenever and have kept my water bill low by selectively watering.
