18TB (which will have Exos in it) is $220 on Seagate web site right now. Probably a better play.

Can these be shucked and used for NAS?
yes, 18TB are probably exos. The others are probably not.

I haven't been keeping up with it, but I know about a month ago people were consistently getting EXOS in the 18TB increment of external drive. Has this continued? People still reporting EXOS?
Ordered mine just about a month ago from seagate.com and it is EXOS. $229-10% coupon
Device Model: ST18000NM000J-2TV103

From the seagate store. If you want Exos I recommend 18TB. The rest are probably barracuda.
do you have a link? everything on the site just says "where to buy" for me

All drives are disasters waiting to happen, so I'd just get what's cheapest and the quietest if it's going to be in regular use near you. You should never only have 1 single drive to rely on.
This is why I don't get why they don't have 10TB or 8TB drives for under $100? İ need only about 5-6TB space and I'd like to get 2 drives so I can consolidate my backups. What is going on with Hard drive market lately.

It's A.I.. require storage space. Plus the economy, tariffs and all factor in. But in the grand scheme of things, back in the late 90's I got a 4 GB IBM hard drive for 275 and thought it was a steal!

You don't understand why the market price of these higher capacity drives doesn't correlate with your specific storage requirements?

You're about 2 years too late. There used to be regular deals on 8tb WD Red drives for low 100s. I don't think they even manufacture them anymore.

I won't know for sure until it arrives next week. If you're thinking about getting one at the sale prices, just do it now while they have stock available. You can always return it if it's not what you wanted.
