I bought 3 of these. 1 had a broken hose bracket, another was missing accessories and stuff to install it, another one failed 4 days before the 90 day return period. Returned all 3 of them. Like the other poster said, it's Russian roulette.

My unit shows: On full cooling load, 1200-1300 watts. On fan only, about 150-200watts. The game changer is duo hose. Most affordable non-inverter units are single-hose, that create negative pressure that draws air from any leak spot from outside. Dual hose design has the most efficiency gain. If your area is very hot, the unit is running non-stop to keep up the cooling demand, then inverter does not save much. But if your area is mostly 80-85F outside, then the inverter is mostly running on low speed (also quieter), then a non-inverter (constant speed compressor) is less efficient.

I bought it over 3 months ago for $249. I know it's like Russian roulette when you get the box. in my case it the AC looks brand new never been used+with all the accessories. it's been running in the room above the garage since last month non-stop. you can buy the extended warranty 3 or 5 years for $35 I think.

You can buy foam board insulation at Home Depot for pretty cheap. I will say that it is a complete mess when you cut it though and you need to then tape the seams. You can get the lower r value one in a 4x8 sheet for a 10 bucks and double up the thickness. Make sure you have duct tape though. Alternatively a cheap camping sleeping pad similar to a yoga mat would work.
I found the large black sticky foam pads midea sent actually seal pretty well. Could be thicker but definitely sealed all the micro gaps well for me. Would be nice to have a solution thats removes cleanly/easily though. If you have little ones, and don't want to screw into your window frames, I also bought a set of these which work well:

There's different sizes and shapes depending on your window. Also found that these can keep downward pressure on the window to keep the seal tight.

I also got some plastic mesh (like a window screen but plastic to avoid rust) and inserted it into the vent slider on the outside. The holes are so large I wanted to keep birds and critters out.

Would love something like this to lower AC costs throughout the year but I only have a sliding doors on my 2nd floor. House is masonry, assume I'm out of luck?
If you could fill the upper portion of the door gap with something such as foamboard, you could have the AC duct hose into the window filler in the bottom of the gap.

Incidentally, due to a tendency to accumulate mold* on the exhaust vanes/fan blades if run for weeks on end, every few days I run it in heater mode for 10-15 minutes in the morning to ensure everything is dried out.
*-(It's nowhere near as bad as the recalled units, at least -- I have taken it apart, which was incredibly difficult with all the clamshell clips -- the mold was only in the top where cold/hot air comes out)

I know it's convenient, but a 120v heater is always max 1500w (theoretical outlet limit is 1800w but never seen one over 1500w.) it's essentially a controlled short circuit. Can be had for $30 or less online. As the saying goes though, it's "something else to break." 1500w going through this controlled short puts a lot of stress on the electrical components meaning more chance of it breaking something. So instead of being out $30 you're out a $200+ unit. So having them separate is better in the long run. Also allows you to put away the unit in the winter and close your window to minimize cold air coming in.
You saying the heat pump on those portable AC units is just as bad as those heaters that selling for $50-$100 at Costco or Amazon?

I thought it will be much better…

I didn't realize it was a heat pump. In that case no, those would be much more efficient. My bad.

Got mine today. There was no package in the hose. It's missing the remote, instructions, screws, security bracket.
Wonder how much BS I will have to go through to get them.

Lots of BS and if it's that messed up, you might just want to roll the dice one more time and order another

Received today and the dual hose was pretty dirty inside. Returned. Should've ordered two.

Received mine today, package is only acceptable with holes on the box. Accessories look used with dirty spots. AC unit vent is not properly aligned. I didn't bother to take it out of the box, will return it next week.

Even though it looks like this expired, I thought I'd share my experience with this so far. Mine arrived 2 days ago, Fedex had kindly delivered the unit upside down at my door step. Flipped it over and unboxed it with the plan to let it sit for day before firing it up.
All parts seemed to be present, with things like the remote and some bits and pieces for mounting and window locking still in a sealed bag. It seemed like it may have actually came with an additional rubber banded roll of sealing tape and foam, which I won't complain about.
Air conditioner itself seems to be in excellent shape, with no apparent damage of any kind, and pulling the filter cover off and shining my light into every opening on it, it seems spotless inside, at least from what I can tell.
Fired it up yesterday morning and it ran non stop all day with no issue. No odd odors, noises, etc. I will come back to update if anything changes, but so far so good and in my opinion worth rolling the dice if you want a portable unit this large. I think even at 250 I'd chance it over the 450-500 bucks these seem to sell for regular price.
This thing throws some pretty serious air and my living room/kitchen that typically struggled with my smaller A/C on hot days stayed icy cold during a pretty hot one yesterday. Hooked right up to my Midea air app that my window unit uses so I can control both from my phone.

7/14 - I just got mine in from FedEx... The box is pretty trashed. It was almost certainly laying on it's side. The box was sealed and everything seems to be accounted for. But, I'm going to follow the advice in this thread and let it sit upright for a day or so and give it a shot tomorrow night or Wednesday morning.
*7/21 Update Edit in case anyone comes back to this thread* - Despite the box being in really bad shape, my unit was in good shape and all of the parts were there. It's been running in "cool" mode for 5-6 days (mostly on low speed around 76 degrees bumping it down cooler as needed) and working great cooling a 12x20 workshop. I do think it's really important to let this unit sit upright for at LEAST 24 hours just to be safe. Setup was easy once you place all of the foam in the windowsill.

Bit the bullet and ordered. Purchased this same unit from Costco last week for $429 with the reassurance of returning it and the extra protection should it fail or I find a more competitive price. Viola.Noticed this one includes a 1 year warranty offered from Midea directly. Purchased it with my CC that offers an extended warranty. In reading the prior comments from the link posted by @mja28, it seems this is a hit or miss when it comes to reliability. Anyone deal with a warranty experience after the return period expired?
Read the terms of your CC extended warranty. Mine excludes refurbished products.
