Obviously the safest thing to do if you're planning on doing this is to root it during the return window on the off chance it bricks.
afaik return window for consumer electronics for Walmart is 30 days: https://corporate.walma

Tip: Turn off window and transition animations in developer options (tap build to unlock developer options) to make it feel less sluggish.

BUT updates are not based on the OS it is 100% based on the manufacturer. And Onn is notorious (Walmart) for not providing proper support.
Walmart has created a CHEAP CHEAP tablet to compete with Fire tablets. And Walmart has their own bloatware installed on every Onn (currently not as bad as Amazon's).
You can not buy this tablet and expect any updates.
The real issue is people don't know how to use a super weak tablet....
SO THIS IS A START.
But realize that you should do this with weak tablets but don't buy one THIS weak.
AGAIN, the CHEAPEST tablet to buy is the Lincplus T3.
And when you say you are correct... is that based on anything besides being prejudice to Chinese companies?
It's based on outdated versions of Android not getting security updates. It's based on facts. Enjoy your spyware and by all means enter your banking information.
I just received it a couple days ago and it's on 13 only.
I'm pretty impressed for what I'm getting in terms of speed and display. obviously I have to get used to it being much slower than my usual flagship android phones.
weird, I bought this tablet for a dedicated HA dashboard but it ended up being close to unusable. About to return it but wondering if I can tune the tablet a bit to free up some ram?
