Zero drop shoes will guarantee a drop for you! If you have flat feet, high arches, plantar fasciitis or any foot condition, this is guaranteed to make your condition worse. Good price, but not suitable for a large chunk of the population.. YMMV

Interesting. I've heard zero drop is exactly what is needed for Plantar Fasciitis, once you've built up to it.

Really? That's interesting because I got the opposite advice from my podiatrist. I have flat feet and used to have severe plantar fasciitis and even used a custom insert recommended by a podiatrist which just shifted the pain from my foot to ankle and knee. Then I went to a chiropractor on a friend's recommendation and after my first adjustment, plantar fasciitis (PF) and all pain gone! Mine was due to uneven length of legs and one foot collapsing the arch so I don't limp (hey good design lol) and so PF due to other reasons may not see this benefit. Zero drop doesn't provide any arch support and so increase overpronation which would make PF worse methinks-best to consult a Dr as I'm sure it might help some people with PF for some other reason.

Yeah, it's really strange, everything I've been told and read 1 or the other in very strong opposite directions. It's either get as padded and supportive of shoes as possible or go zero drop for the strengthening of the Achilles tendon, saying the drop is exacerbating the problem. I'm currently using the Asics nimbus shoes for the strong padding but have peers that have swapped to zero drop and claim great success once they eased into it. I'm sure more studies are being done now.

Good to know-thanks! Maybe time to try the Vibrams and see if that works-I think they are zero drop-will google..

Yeah, I'll do more research too. Altra is the brand I've heard good things about, but the most important thing is easing into it very gradually, or so I've been told by peers overcoming the issue. We'll see

For me, a combination of Altras (wide toe box and zero drop, but some cushion) for when I needed shoes, and Oofos (when I would normally go barefoot around the house) combined to work better than all the PT and roller balls, special inserts, etc. Been doing the Altra/Oofos combo for going on 2 years now and rarely have more than mild flare-ups from plantar fasciitis anymore

As others noted zero drop will HEAL those issues. But like penguins said you have to work up to it, if you just jump in to barefoot shoes it will not feel good!

I've been wearing vivo barefoot for years and I think just walking isn't enough to fix major issues. It takes getting use to but I think jogging and running would be the workout needed to fix issues and they have their own cautions, like not jogging with heels striking first.

I'm not a physical therapist nor in the medical field, but I've been doing a lot of self therapy using trigger point therapy. Look for workbooks on Amazon for your soft tissue problems. It's worked to loosen up shoulder joints, tennis elbow, lower back pain, etc. Highly recommend this book:
