Just FYI, I was unable to use a gift card for an autoship order this week, from their Autoship FAQs:

Autoship orders require a credit or debit card for payment. We're unable to accept alternative payment methods like PayPal or gift cards at this time.

Not exactly true. You do have to provide a credit or debit card at checkout for future orders, but you can still use a gift card to cover your initial order in full.

This is no longer the case for me as of like a week or so ago. The only way it will allow it is if the gift card doesn't cover the full amount.

I have been a regular PetSmart.com shopper for the past year and I noticed a couple changes in the past 30 days.

As eminy shared:

This is true and has changed for a recent AutoShip order (last 30 days). My only way to be able to gift card for an AutoShip order was to ensure my grand total purchase amount exceeded the amount of the gift card used. For example, if you have a $50.00 Gift card, your Grand Total must be $50.01 or greater. Thus, this will force you to input a credit card to cover the balance difference (and used to pay for the future subsequent AutoShip shipment). THIS WAS NOT THE CASE previously, as I was able to make multiple purchases using a gift card exclusively for AutoShip orders.

HOWEVER, the most recent purchase (less than a week), it appears they reverted back [maybe due to customer complaints?] which allowed me use only a gift card to pay for an AutoShip order. So YMMV?

Also, they recently capped the AutoShip discount to $20.00 maximum in the past 60 days (which was NOT the case prior), HOWEVER my last AutoShip order allowed me to receive a larger discount of $20.00 so another YMMV?

I placed a new auto ship order on Tuesday and paid entirely in gift cards đŸ¤·, but yeah you do have to have some sort of valid credit card on file (you can always delete it later).

Also in the past, it would give me more than $20 off, but it depended if it was on a computer or phone app (can't remember which). This time it only seemed to do $20 though (can't really complain, buying cat food this way is a steal compared to shelf price. Also went through a cashback portal for a few more $$ back, and I earned a few $$ more in petsmart bucks for my next order).

Petsmart's handling of gift cards is a disaster all around—in my experience, their online checkout fails to process them over half the time (but try the same numbers enough times over a day or so and it will eventually go through.) Haven't had difficulty in-store, but which true Slickdealer just goes in blind with no stackable discounts?
