I have regularly eaten 15 year-old MREs, with never, ever even a hint of a problem. But I store them in the cool basement. Do not ever store them in an attic or garage - heat and time are the enemy. They are OK in high heat for a very short period of time, or low temperature for a very long period of time.
Speaking of low temperature, freezing is not a good thing. The crystals of the ice tend to make little daggers that pierce the container that causes spoilage in a couple of days after it thaws.
ETA: they also send you a picture of your MREs in the email they send with tracking info, which i've never seen anybody do before

This is basically what everyone uses for just about any related q you could have.
But short answer no - However halal ones are distributed as humanitarian aid, usually not avail to the public, but often sold on ebay as "collectibles"
Much harder with a Dinty Moore can.

These are with heaters. Oh hell yes. Oh and the yesterday fascinate your kids...
Though, one thing you do need that does not come in the MRE bag: a sharp knife to open it with. It's bitch to open without a knife, so are the pouches. They don't even have tear notches.

My first try at a virtual card was unsuccessful at Bank of America, they don't do it.
I ended up doing it at Capital One.
As for them going bad, I've been eating my long-term stash over the last few months. The only one that was bad had been sitting in my truck for a couple years subject to extreme temperature swings. None of the others, all same or even older vintage, had any problems. The telltale sign was that the main entree had "separated" with oil pooling at the bottom of the pouch, which was obvious when I emptied it. The M&Ms ("hard candy coated chocolate disks") had disintegrated, with the hard candy coating in tiny pieces among the white-colored milk chocolate. Jalapeno cheese smelled REALLY off when I opened that one.
None of my basement-stored ones were bad. I have two left, but those will be gone soon with this new box coming. Thanks, OP!
FYI: Grab single use packets of hot sauce from fast food restaurants whenever you can. They make a world of difference with most MREs. In addition to all the taste compromises that go with making ready to eat food that can last a decade or more, MRE entrees at their core are designed to be the least offensive to the broadest audience possible. More than most foods, almost any added seasoning goes a long way with MREs.
