What are the big differences?
I love post apocalyptic stuff, but I only made it through 3 episodes of Silo TV show, it got boring with nonsensical petty side stories real quick and just plain weird like it almost expected me to already know what was going on that would possibly give some meaning to the scenes (which I didn't see cause I didn't read the books), without context the show got completely stupid real fast. I dumped the show on E4. It was insufferable. I love sci fi of this kind but it was unwatchable.
$4 is really good for books as long as they're not as stupid and boring as the show.

I've read those books and thoroughly enjoyed them. I thought the silo concept was neat and innovative while it still contained some of the regular elements of human nature in these kind of fictional post apocalyptic environments.
I think it is recommendable series, particularly at $4.

I don't know if I made it past the first book. I remember it feeling really slow to me, and not in a tension-filled anticipation-building way. It was pretty clear what was happening quite a while before there was any payoff.
Edit to add: I still think this is a good deal for $4.

In comparison look how much Fallout accomplished per episode. Every scene is interesting. Silo didn't have even 1% of that. And I'm not a Fallout fan, never played games and knew nothing of it. But it's just well written.
