The biggest downside to this is it only has gigabit ethernet. While it isn't a deal breaker, for most, just be aware of this limitation.

If you are looking at 2Gbps+ internet service, you will most likely be buying $300+ routers.

You need multi-gig WAN and LAN ports to fully take adantage of multi-gig internet.

Now, if your internet provider only provides speeds under 1Gbps, then this works perfectly for you.

Keep in mind while AiMesh works great, cross generation mix can cause issues.

I.e. if you ever upgrade to WiFi 7 router, you may have AiMesh compatibility issues. I run my main router RT-BE88U as a single WiFi 7 router. Then I run all my WiFi 6 AiMesh routers as access point mesh using WiFi 6.

When I try to mix WiFi 7 and WiFi 6 together as a single AiMesh network, I had compatibility issues.

I have this router. It's wifi 6 and works just fine. It still receives regular updates.

I have a less than one year old router. It has the current standard, and all my devices still run on 5 year old standards

Just because it is latest doesn't mean you will get benefits from it right away. All clients that connect to it also needs to support it.

This is a $100 router, and it performs very well. I'll take this over a junky $100 WiFi 7 one any day.

Speaking as a techie and a former hobbyist, I don't know if I agree. This is $100 today, and by the time you get the feature you're "future proofing against", that feature will be available in $50 routers, and $100-in-the-future routers will have other features that make them better. Don't buy more technology than you need today, because it'll be cheaper later. I'd rather use a $50 router today and a better $50 router in 2 years, rather than a $100 router that I'm not fully utilizing today, and will be outdated for some other reason later.

A different story is, I think $50 vs $100 isn't a big enough difference to lose sleep over if it lasts 2+ years.

I am slow upgrad9ngn anything, though, even tho9ugh I technically do some software dev stuff. Right now since my router broke I am using one where my wifi speed is only around 40mbps, though, and am starting to feel like it doesn't even matter much to me. But since my pc build is capable of 2.5gbps I just hate to then pair it with something incapable of it.

I had the 30% off amazon purchase offer, but I finally decided to just sue it to get a $100 best buy gift card and wait about a router until maybe black friday.
