If you haven't tried them as your primary phone you probably won't understand. My flip 5 is tiny when closed and easily fits in any pocket. I use the front screen extensively and while closed it is very durable. Some of it is gimmicky and Samsung seems to have decided that the front screen software on the flip is... done. But thankfully, there are apps that allow you to do more with them.
I want a fold but can't stomach the $1k price tag. I'm hoping for a ~300-350 trade in deal for the flip 7.
I think I could stomach $750 knowing I could upgrade to the next (or next next) for ~ 500 but I don't think either of those are going to happen.
Don't know about Flip, but I tried Razr and thought the external screen is more of a gimmick. Yes, good to see who's calling, run a timer/stopwatch, but reading emails is an effort. So I'm now looking forward to get a Fold, because the external screen seems to be like a fully functional standalone phone, and the internal screen would be great for emails and such. At least this is what I'm expecting. But if you want a Flip 7 below $750, GoogleFi has them for $500.
That's like seeing the price of a Bugatti and saying "damn Pretty soon $3M for a car will be normal"
You could say the same if I replace it with $1,000, but let's be real these days, $1,000 for a phone is the norm. Most phones are priced around that now, so your argument doesn't hold up.

No. The point is there will always be phones at all prices, just like there will always be cars at different price points.
You said $3K for a cell phone, not top tier flagship.
Have you looked at Samsung A-series phones? Those do pretty much everything a regular person needs and they do it very well, and they can be had for as low as $150 unlocked, maybe even lower sometimes.
Spending $1k, $2k, $3k on a phone is a luxury purchase.
I was able to get a 512gb and a 1tb for $2548. I'll be able to sell this fold 6 1tb for $1200, on addition to 2 other phones for $400 each. so $548 when it's all said and done.
I left the phone in my cart and interestingly enough the shop samsung app sent a notification via my phone saying there was an additional $100 off. In the cart, with EPP and the $100 off, it knocks the phone to $934 before tax for me now with fold4 trade-in.
psychology always works.. next year they'll MSRP is at 2999 and offer $1500 trade ins.. either way it's $1200 for a fold is way too much. it's ain't 2019 and the mark up is insane. think about the cost of an entire top end laptop with Nvidia GPU cheaper than a phone. or a 77 OLED Tv whose shipping alone costs hundreds being cheaper than a phone.
Anyone that spends this much on a phone needs to have their head examined. Absurd.
I'm no fan of this 'deal' but if there was ever a device to splurge on , it the phone. there not a single item we interact more than our phones. we pend a lot more on stuff we use a few times week. of course, a phone is still a tool and reflect what make you productive

As a Fold 4 user myself, I'm curious are you itching to upgrade? I saw the Fold 7 in person last Friday and man the weight/thinnest blew me away. But the only things keeping me from upgrading is the lack of battery upgrade of any kind and no Under Display Camera on the main screen. I'll probably wait a year myself in hopes of better battery but curious on what another Fold 4 user thinks.

Thanks OP, I did save money but Chat told me they couldn't credit me the difference on the old order and to place a new one with the better pricing. I did that, and when I went to cancel the old order I couldn't because it's in process already. Now I have x2 phones shipping to me, but I am not concerned that I won't be able to return the first more expensive one. It's just a bit of a hassle.
why wouldn't you be able to return it? just go into a store or refuse delivery

Yes, I can now have 4 screens to stare at instead of 2.
