I wonder if ordering thru Samsung (online) and picked it up from Best Buy still invokes the 5% restock, if returned back at BB.
I think this is the only way to bypass restocking fee. A month ago, I purchased Jet AI Ultra Vacuum cleaner from Samsung picked up at Bestbuy. I returned it with no issue at Bestbuy. I chatted with couple of rep before returning it to make sure there's no restocking fee.
I'm also a Fold 4 user and using it with the stock Samsung case with the kickstand, which comes out to 310g. Checked it out at Best Buy and I was impressed with the form factor. The weight reduction to 215-218g, thinness, larger screens and 200MP main camera changes are good enough for me to consider the upgrade. The wider outer display felt really good to type on and is more comfortable for me, especially since our Fold 4 was the last generation to not fold flat. I always had to hold it at a slight angle to see the outer display at a straight on view.
The S Pen came for free with the Fold 4 stock case, but I almost never used it past the early stages. If I ever have a use case in the future, a regular passive capacitive stylus is all I would need. I know others use the S Pen more often and has become a part of their daily usage, but it does not apply to me.
As for the UDC, I disabled it using Good Lock/MultiStar and I got used to the black dot after 1-2 days. It basically gets erased in my mind as my focus is almost always towards the middle of the screen. It sucks to lose the full immersive inner screen, but it's not a big deal after experiencing it myself.
The battery size being stagnant isn't great, but I'm always near a charger at home/work/driving or have a battery bank with me if I'm traveling. Early tests indicate about 6+ hours of screen on time with the Fold 7, which is already better than my Fold 4 and I'm never really hurting for more battery life.
Another worry I have is that my phone is way out of warranty. Almost a year in with my Fold 4, a big black dot appeared in the crease towards the top despite never dropping the phone. The pixels were dead and it was likely due to the inner part of the hinge rubbing on that part of the OLED panel. Thankfully it was replaced for free under warranty with Samsung and they fully replaced the inner screen, outer screen and batteries. However I was out of a phone for 2 weeks. After another 1.5 years, towards the end of 2024, I noticed that parts of the inner screen were starting to get loose around the crease, so I took off the inner screen protector when it started peeling around the crease. Read that is one of the main causes of the black dead pixel line forming on the crease due to the loose screen protector pulling the panel out of place when folding/unfolding. Haven't had any issues since then but I'm concerned about future durability issues as it is nearing 3 years old. Any repairs would cost a minimum of $500-600 so that's basically more than half the cost of this upgrade.
I'll likely purchase Samsung VIP Advantage for $149 to get the free 2yrs of Samsung Care+ which is $259 on its own. The nice thing is that whatever happens to the Fold 7, I can get a new/like-new refurbished unit for $99 and it's shipped within 1-2 business days. I'd rather not have to use it, but that peace of mind is enough to consider going caseless for the first time. I may still get a thin aramid fiber case with an integrated magsafe circle, the Aliexpress ones are basically from the same factory as Latercase or Pitaka. Unsure if I want to get just the back case or both the front and back.
Last point, the Fold 3 has a trade-in value of only $300, so consider that to be the same for the Fold 4 if you plan to wait for the Fold 8 next year. Some people are waiting until Sept-Oct to see if bad sales will bring even better deals than launch. I don't expect it to drop more than $100-200 at most. US Tariff uncertainty and Samsung's market decline is also something to think about, but only time will tell.
Anyway sorry for the long reply, but I think these are the main pain points for people who are on older Folds and are struggling to pull the trigger on upgrading or waiting another year. Seems like people who are on Fold 5 and 6 or are heavy S Pen users are not likely to upgrade yet, but more Fold 3/4 users are inclined to upgrade to the better form factor.
i am in the same boat with fold 4. The Fold 4 still serve my needs. I crunched some numbers with this trade-in, and my out of pocket cost will be about $1000.
However, looking at depreciation trend on refurbed Fold units on ebay that comes with 1 year warranty, the Fold 7 will likely come down to about $500-$600 without any trade in abou 2 years, and I still get to keep the Fold 4 around as a back up or pass it on to a family member. The depreciation curve on these phones are steep.
I've gone through the exact same thing. The rep told me that he's unable to cancel the Fold7, and that I must refuse delivery. I then said that I would just keep my original order if he would reinstate the digital freebies, and most especially the 2 years of Samsung Care. But he said he was unable to do that. So stupid! I guess I'll just refuse the delivery as he suggested.
Ask them for price match i got refund confirmation within 24 hours.
is it worth it to trade an Fold 4? It's heavy, but it's still serving me pretty well speed-wise and battery.
I would wait until the mid year sales then, when they up the trade in values of the older folds as they normally do. Last year the Fold 3 was 1000 trade in at one point.

It's down to $934 pre-tax for me, not including the insurance. My upgrade cycle has been every 3 years since the Galaxy S2 (S2 Skyrocket, S5+, S8+, S20 Ultra, Fold 4). While my Fold 4 is still capable, I'm mainly concerned on the durability past the 2-3 year mark as I've already had to deal with a warranty issue at the end of year 1. I understand these high-end phones depreciate quickly, but for something I use for hours on a daily basis, it's justified for me. Given my 3 year upgrade cycle, it comes out to $1/day if I'm spending $1000 each time.
That said, I had meant to pre-order it yesterday but got caught up with other stuff and now I'm conflicted. I was able to pick it up on July 25 at several local Best Buy locations, but now in-store pick up is no longer an option and the shipping date got pushed back to Aug 15. At least for the 512GB Blue Shadow option, which is the color I want. If I have to wait a month to get it, I might as well skip the pre-order period and wait for the fall/winter sales as others keep saying it's better to wait.

I hope you all aren't buying this - I've got my last 3 Fold iterations for like $200-500 with free buds and watches, etc.
The Fold 4 launch was like this where it had a lot of freebies or cheap accessories, but it's been getting worse each year, with this year bringing the least incentives. Past years had stackable coupons and it seems like other countries like Canada and the UK are getting better deals than the US for once. Did you upgrade during the Sept-Oct sales or was it later on during BF/Winter Holiday sales?
My issue with these experiences is that people who are saying it's cheap are upgrading every year, but their daily cost is jumping up to $1.50~$2/day compared to $1/day for a 3-yr upgrade cycle.

I left the phone in my cart and interestingly enough the shop samsung app sent a notification via my phone saying there was an additional $100 off. In the cart, with EPP and the $100 off, it knocks the phone to $934 before tax for me now with fold4 trade-in. Edit: No $50 accessories credit though
My dude, any tips to getting that notification to pop? I have tried adding it and leaving it a few times... I think I would pull the trigger at $700 after tax

If you're not gullible and can elude the hype and FOMO, wait! These things, in this economy, ain't gonna fly off the shelves ( no matter what picture Sammy might, and will likely to create fomo, project )
As someone who has used nearly every fold, except the OG and 4, the ZF7 isn't the 2nd coming by a long shot. All the ' oooh and aahs' is just the honeymoon phase.
I had to go to 2 reps to get them to process the price match. They told me 24-48 hours, and i should have a confirmation email.Did you get the refund?
Are they promising outright refund before teceiving the item? My rep is asking me to raise request after receiving the item. I was worried that the price will be more because preorder deal would have ended (storage upgrade)
Warning: Whoever pre-ordered it before and try to cancel it might not go through. i found out the price dropped last night, and I just canceled my last pre-ordered right the way. but when i received the cancel email, they only canceled my digital goods (software bonuses, Samsung care), but the phone still were stuck "in process." Now the "cancel" option on "my order" is disappear. i can't cancel it anymore.
I just chatted with rep 3 times see if they can help and 2 of the rep said I have to wait 24 hours to see if the cancelation goes though an other rep said i have to wait 24-36hr. that stupid... the item not even shipped yet. i dont know why they dont let me cancel it.
Had the same issues. They told me I had to wait for it to come and then return it.

I have a fold 4. The outer display works fine. But the inner display will light up for a brief moment while you slowly open and will turn off automatically. Will it be eligible for full trade-in or cracked.?
