In 2025 battery degradation is no longer a concern for the average user. Phones now come equipped with a setting to limit charging to 80% and with greatly improved battery durability.
If you plan to keep your phone > 2 years or if you wish to optimize then start by determining the recommended charging profile for your phone. It's not the wattage of the charger that matters it is the volts. Phones only charge up to the limit of wattage they are designed to accept. Even with a 65 watt adapter a 15 watt phone will still only charge up to the 15 watt rate.
Its volts not watts that you should be concerned with.
To optimize battery life during charging, use a "smart" ac adapter "charger" with a phone which has the ability to precisely adjust the adapters voltage. Many newer phones are designed to use PPS . programmable power supply. This deal wall charger is old tech and lacks PPS so it gets down-voted by me even though older phones and economy models without PPS will work fine with it. Only the Otterbox Premium Pro models have PPS.
Output. PD 20Vā1.5A, 15Vā2A, 5V/9Vā3A;
PD PPS 21Vā1.5A, 16Vā2A, 11Vā3A
Your best bet is to buy either this Google 30 watt or the newer 45 watt version which is on sale for $25. Why? Because these are extremely well built using premium components with high efficiency, low ripple and well controlled voltage which is easier on the phone's circuitry. And you are future proofing with 21v PPS capability.
There are only a few other 21v PPS chargers on the market right now. Anker 313 ( must be the 'Ace' version ). $16. The Otterbox 60w dual port has 21v PPS and I've confirmed with testing that it meets spec.
11v PPS adapters are common and will charge your phone albeit painfully slower with no advantage to battery wear.
Pixel 8a has a maximum charge rate of 18 watts but you will only get that by using USB C-PD PPS adapter which has the voltages which it supports. Google is excessively conservative to increase safety. In your battery menu you will find options for adaptive charging and a hard limit 80%.
Pixel 9 Pro XL is boosted to 37 watts with 21v PPS. 10 or 15 minutes is all I need. I use an 11V when I'm not in a hurry.
