This is the OEM filter for the popular Coway purifier.

Appears to be the lowest price ever

These are the older fabric carbon filters, not the ones with actual bits of activated carbon. Not a great deal given there's 3rd party filters that work just as well for the same price.

I really don't understand why someone would spend money on a premium air purifier to then just use off brand, knockoff filters.

The filters are what makes an air purifier's value worthwhile vs subpar or inadequate, so I wouldn't use knockoffs for them

The carbon filters on this type of air purifier are a joke regardless. It's just another prefilter to keep the hepa going for longer. I'll take OEM over 3rd party any day.

I'm talking about the newer filter that has a mesh with pellets of activated carbon in them: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07W4FJYB2

That's the only OEM filter worth buying, because there is no 3rd party one available.

I prefer the filters with bits of panther in them.

Activated carbon de-odorizes and can capture VOC's, while HEPA is only used for capturing small particles. HEPA is good, but HEPA with carbon is better, but it does increase maintenance costs because the filters are more expensive.

You could diy some fans and filters, though, and buy activated carbon in bulk for the same effect.

The material is the same. All your doing when you spend twice as much on the same Chinese junk is stoking your ego and increasing profits for that company.
Coway is a Korean company, not Chinese. It may not look like it, but there's a difference. Really shows how much research you put into it.

Google says:

Quote :
Coway air purifiers are primarily manufactured in Guangzhou, China. While Coway is a South Korean company with its global headquarters in Seoul, the production of their air purifiers is strategically located in Guangzhou due to cost-effectiveness and efficient supply chain management, according to HisoAir. Additionally, Coway has production plants in Yogu, South Korea, in addition to Guangzhou

Coway, a Korean brand, manufactures its air purifiers, including the filters, primarily in Guangzhou, China. However, their research and development, which includes filter design, are conducted at their Environmental Technology Research Institute in Seoul, South Korea. While Coway utilizes manufacturing capabilities in China, they also work with suppliers outside of China to diversify their supply chain and mitigate risks such as tariffs.
In essence
Manufacturing: Guangzhou, China.
Research & Development/Design: Seoul, South Korea.
So yes, I was correct. It appears companies that aren't Chinese can manufacturer products in China, for cost savings maybe? Imagine that! Maybe go read an 8th grade social studies book and come back to the discussion with a more interesting factoid.
