You can purchase an external NVMe case for it. I have a 2TB external case for mine and it works great. Just as fast as internal drive.

Edit: I said there were some Amazon reviews mentioning it worked for their Mac mini. But elefante72 says it won't work. I believe him over couple random Amazon reviews, so editing my post to reflect that.

I saw couple reviews mentinoing they used this to upgrade their mac mini and it worked. I will give it a try.
It 100% will not work. In the mac mini the controller is in the socket (the module has specific circuitry and the SSD chips), whereas in something like this the storage controller exists on the chip + SSD memory because then it just talks PCIe using SATA spec. So not sure where you read this, but it is 200% wrong. Now this is m4 series mac mini, earlier m-series the SSD are soldiered on so this isn't even in scope.

Nintendo should have gone with M.2 over microSD express. A 1TB microSD express is over $200...it's an early adopter tax that probably won't reach $70 until the very end of the Switch 2 lifecycle, if that. M.2 uses more power, but I'm sure they could have figured it out.

I assume that it's more kid/family/non-technical friendly to just pop in an SD card, than to open a cover and install an M.2 (even if it's easy, it looks like a "computer chip" to my parents and they would have idea what to do with it)

Yes you can. The latest model Mac Mini has a removable SSD. It doesn't use standard SSD's but there are companies selling compatible SSD's for it.

You can use this to upgrade your Mac Mini by putting it in an enclosure and moving your OS over to it and setting it to your boot drive. I have a 2TB external on mine acting as the main OS/boot drive and the internal 256GB is no longer used.

Thanks for reminding folks this is an option. My thunderbolt NVMe adapter is plenty fast, so I think for mini RAM is more critical (there is no way to upgrade that) but storage it is possible, but not necessarily user friendly.

My MBP this was more a PITA, but I do have a TB docking station where it was possible, but I was not going to carry around an NVMe dongle, so I bought 512GB which I can get away w/ my NAS.
