For those with Citi ThankYou Points [thankyou.com], you can currently redeem them for 10% off on select gift cards.
I suspect the discount might end 7/28 (based on email I received).

Apple seems to be a popular choice (even though someone will invariably say to wait until Black Friday/Cyber Monday for a better deal).
OTOH, I don't remember Target being one of the regular merchants that offer GC discounts so this might be a good option for those who don't have Target Circle Card (for 5% off).

To provide more context, I think this post is referring to when you transfer/redeem/swap Citi ThankYou Points for points at a partner (i.e., JetBlue TrueBlue, Choice Privileges,Wyndam Rewards). For example, when redeeming 1000 ThankYou Points, you would only receive maybe 700 TrueBlue points instead of 800 (I don't know the exact redemption amounts).
Thank you letting me know this. I have about 70k in points from double cash card. Do you think I should just cash (700 USD) it out? I really don't stay at hotels (usually aribnb), don't want gift cards. I do have a chase reserve which I use for flights.

OOoooh. I'm grateful for this post. I transferred my points balance to my bank. Before the next renewal, I hope to have a replacement credit card.

Any suggestions?

I'm not a credit card points expert, but my general thinking is:
  1. If you have a "premium" Citi credit card (usually has annual fee), then you may be able to get better redemptions from travel/hotel/flight partners.
  2. If you have a "basic" Citi credit card, then your redemption options are (sorted in my personal preference):
    1. gift cards (when on sale) - Obviously, if you're going to be making purchases from these merchants in the foreseeable future, it makes sense to just redeem for the discounted gift cards. Otherwise, if you're the type of person who loses/forgets about gift cards, then I'd advise you to not redeem. If you're the type of person who will keep track of your saved/unused gift cards, then you need to ask yourself if you think you're going to shop from these merchants in the next year(s) (because 10% is more than you'd earn in interest if you were to just cash out your reward points).
    2. travel/hotel/flight partners (only if this makes sense to you)
    3. cash out (this is $1 for $1 so can't go wrong with that)

For those of you who are getting only 4 GCs on discount, if you're not signed in try signing in. Only started seeing the other offers after I logged in
No, that's not the problem. The list of gift cards on sale really is customer-dependent.

eBay would be good but typically I cash in like I just did.
My cards (Strata and ThankYou) only give 50 cents for 100 points.
The only way to get full value from the points is via gift card.

Years ago, I was able to get full value by calling and asking for a "mortgage payment"--a check payable to my home equity line of credit. But that option was removed.

Better deal is to buy ubereats gift cards from Costco @ 29% off. They have them on sale quite often for 25% off + executive and CC CB.

I also only have 4 GCs as many others. This deal heading should say "YMMV".

I used to order from them a lot, but the portions at Chipotle have been getting smaller and smaller. Then, last time, I received only about 85% of a full portion. We spoke to an employee, and she said something like, "Yeah, we were told to do that." Disappointed, I deleted their app from my phone.
