I have a similar looking one from JEMDO that works with the Nintendo switch 2 after a firmware update released by Hagibis.

Bought this to give it a try.

Update: This device could not be detected by the firmware updater and it does not work for my switch 2

Some recent reviews mention that it heats up so fast and dies within minutes. one review said it's only 4K30 and not 60hz

Doubtful. Switch 2 doesnt work with non-OEM docks.
wrong, I just got one delivered from Amazon yesterday and it works with switch 2 not this one it's an open concept dock I also ordered one that looks similar to this that says it is for switch 2 specifically but it won't arrive until tomorrow. The one I got that works has a blue cap on one end and a red cap on the other its small strip that leaves the console exposed. So far it works but I haven't updated my firmware past the day one update.it also is a bit lame, it Rock side to side and front to back it has 3 rubber strips as feet but it feels warped

That's a straight up lie. I bought a cord like this and after updating the firmware I use it as my second dock

Yeah, I'm sorta skeptical a/b this specific product so it'll be a hard pass for me.

sure. It works with a few docks. Go read up on this topic. Nintendo implemented a proprietary handshake between the switch and its dock. Other docks will not work unless they have that technology implemented.

Read this and pick someone else to call a liar. Maybe it would help if you learned something before you spoke.

Came in today and doesn't work with the Hagibis firmware update (https://hagibis.bbscloud.com/info...90ba?csr=1). Looks like only the 8K cables are supported.

Funny how Nintendo only does this, no other manufacturer has a problem adhering to the worldwide USB C standards that every other device producer can figure out. *Clearly Nintendo is doing this on purpose, the EU even passed laws to prevent them (and Apple) from creating completely arbitrary standards forcing people to buy OEM accessories that were marked up 400-1000% over similar non branded items. P.S. The Switch 1's port wasn't "proprietary," the software of the Switch decided to ignore certain (again arbitrary) voltages that were common among standard USB C devices so your other USB C devices wouldn't work. Complete money grab, no real world function for this gatekeeping,
yes and no ... when it first came out people measured the port and supposedly the port on the switch was a different size and the pins were closer together. on top of that like you said, the voltages that the Switch could support were different and I guess would cause too much current draw and brick the Switch ... from what I remember.
morale of the story is don't use any 3rd party cables or docks with a Switch ...

Moral of the story; the Switch could have used the long adopted and worldwide USB C standard (which account for a large range of use cases) without punishing their customers and forcing them to use (arbitrarily) expensive OEM accessories which will likely be e-waste when Nintendo creates a new standard a few years from now (sounds like Apple, don't it?)

This isn't like the days when WIFI G, N, etc were rolling out and every manufacturer was hoping they'd luck into soon to be "fully implemented and adopted" standard by picking a random possibility out of dozens. USB C standards are pretty much set in stone and have been for nearly a decade. There is zero excuse for Nintendo to create their own system that has no real world benefit outside of increasing their peripheral market share and gross profit. My Samsung phone charger can charge my Steam Deck, my Steam Deck dock can output video from my Dell Laptop to my HDMI TV, my retro handheld can use either output to my MSI 34" monitor....I am sure the Switch 2 could have as well.

Actually Nintendo changed the handshake between the Nintendo and the Dock. If the third-party dock cant emulate the handshake it wont work with the Switch 2. I am not sure that its clear how this will unfold. Some docks are emulating the handshake. However it may be the case that Nintendo will change it. I havent seen anything directly from Nintendo or anyone that fully addresses this.

An arbitrary requirement with no functional use. None of my example devices require this proprietary and unneeded handshake nor should devices have to masquerade as a Nintendo devices by sending this signal. Any other USB C devices simply verify voltage and amperage falls within industries accepted tolerances. If they do, the device charges, if they don't (normally because something is defective), they won't charge. My Dell laptop doesn't demand my Steam Deck charger does the super secret Freemason 'grip' Wink
