The Pro also has a much better screen with 3x more brightness and more accurate colors, a 6-speaker system, 4 Thunderbolt ports, HDMI and card slot as well over the Air. To me the screen alone makes the Pro a better choice.

The only reason to get the Pro over the Air is if you're doing very processor intensive tasks. The processor intensive tasks will heat it up a lot more and the fans on the pro will kick in and allow you to eek more performance from the M4 chip.

If that's not you (lots of 4k video editing, local LLMs, compiling large code bases - you'd know if it was you) then the MacBook Air is smaller, lighter, more efficient and less expensive.

Definitely not the "only reason"

I think a lot of people would prefer the pro to the air since it has a much, much better display

What is with all these price drops do I return an air to do a pro? I would need to upgrade the ram…

Annoying that I have to return just to get a price match. I guess Amazon will just eat the cost.

I've never understood their philosophy. They know people will do that, and it will cost them more. Why not just save everyone time and money and refund the difference within the return window.

On another thread, I saw a person mentioning that they got Amazon to give them a credit for a recent MacBook Air price drop. It may be worth a try.

True. Not the only reason. Better speakers. I wouldn't call .9" much bigger, but it is bigger. Higher quality display. There are a few other niceties, but from a "guts" perspective, the MacBook Air and the Pros are pretty similar, with the fans being the biggest differentiator - especially if you're using an external display/speakers/keyboard as a lot of people do these days with laptops.

true but more important to have more ram which you can get 24gb on the Air for a lot cheaper than pro. Even with minimal tabs, I routinely hit 16gb usage and need to manage background tasks which gets old fast. I'd give up the screen and fans for an extra 8gb RAM anytime.

I'm with you. The screen is important but the biggest gap in 2025 is gonna be the 16GB of ram… give me the MBA with 24gb of ram and 15" screen instead.

and the screen on the Air is nothing to snear at either! If truly doing demanding work, get fan cooling gizmo when working at a desk and it does help. Pity they don't make m4 pro in Air but they'd cannibalize Pro sale, which they are already doing to some degree.

do not do 16 GMB RAM, you cannot upgrade later
go 24 GB or 36 GB

that said, it all depends on what you do but IMHO RAM is often my bottleneck for my use cases
if/when I upgrade, my focus is on RAM

I've been using 8GB m1 air since ~launch, perfectly fine for light software engineering. These windows bootlickers need to understand not everything is as poorly optimized as the windows OS and windows software (where I had to upgrade to 32GB ram on my w11 desktop)

Butwith m5 right around the corner, I'd wait to see the performance gains on that to see if it is worth buying this at a 19% discount
