TL;DR The sky won't fall if you eat a little fast food and let these apps have access to your (non-sensitive) data.
---------------------------
Some counterpoints to people who are not here for deals but to scare or put down these type of deals based on nutrition and privacy conerns.

I'm not saying they are wrong. But my opinion is that's not a reason for all of us to forego these foods completely, nor permission hungry apps. Not evil, but yes, marketing and profit, so your (non-sensitive) data is the product you are giving to get the savings. Make an informed choice.

I'm repping OP for their valuable time donated to us, the masses of slick dealers, who want deals. Most adults know that fast food is not a good daily diet. I sometimes have chosen not to partake, based on my personal dietary preferences, but I try not to be all gloom and doom or shameful to everyone like they are going to ruin their lives.

Not as many of us notice/realize that apps want lots of permissions. It is to let them track, target us with their advertising, and yes, to sell our data.
We save money, they save by targeted ads, and they make money. It can be considered a win-win. No one ever brings that up in these deals.

The fact is that there is little or no privacy. Even the credit bureaus got hacked. Your SENSITIVE data is out there and for sale. Your identity is already at risk.

While it is true that continuing to let them have more access to your other data for marketing purposes does not mitigate this, it may not make it worse in the identity-theft sense.

Refusing to use any apps for deals will cost you more unless you are not a person who cares about saving. More and more places are requiring app use in order to get deals.
It is a trade-off.

These apps are not selling your sensitive data such as payment methods, login information/passwords, and SSNs. They are selling your tracking information. I can't say for certain if it includes personal data such as your name in conjunction with the information.
They (JUST THE SAME AS ANY SITE/ COMPANY with online presence, or even GOVERNMENT AGENCIES) can, have, and/or will get hacked. So that could impact you.

So far, they are not generating fake texts up to spam your contacts (like email and Facebook (et al) scammers, not make phone calls as you, or take secret videos, or pictures, or listen to you, or apply for credit cards as you.

It takes a serious amount of work to avoid most (no complete way other than going off-grid) of the data mining. There is no avoiding businesses and governmental leaks/hacks from our end. They have and will continue to get hit.

So the bottom line:
I say it is only preventing a drop in the bucket to try to avoid these apps.
The health concerns can be a big issue if you constantly eat food rich in fats, carbs, calories, and unhealthy oils.
WE KNOW THIS, so I choose to live a little less than a perfect diet, relax, and enjoy my cravings and savings when I can.

Let me boil this person's wall-o-text post down to something readable:

- "I don't care what other people do to my data. I've been careless and let it leak out there already, so I'm willing to allow bad-intentioned third parties to abuse me further for a small discount on crummy food. I argue you should too."

- "I don't care about nutrition or health. Neither should you."

whats up with apple bee's really big meal? they are literally cheaper than fast food.

Applebees and Chili's are seeing a resurgence in sales, thanks to their prices. We love Chili's 3 for $10.99 and Applebees has some great deals for couples as well. It's nice to sit down and be served instead of fast food all the time and drive thrus.

Thank you for the translation, lol. I could care less what apps do with my info as well. Anyone on the internet leaves a pretty big footprint these days. I secure my bank and credit card info with alerts, double authentication, biometrics, etc., so if anyone does hack me, they are going to have a very hard time getting anything. I also freeze my credit and onlu open it up when I need to make a large purchase, such as a car or home. Freezing your credit is free by the way. You don't go get loans every day, so why leave your credit wide open?

How much less could you care?

Unless you meant "couldn't care less"?

It's genuinely hard to tell which, since you're self-admittedly careless and imprecise in your behavior....it naturally extends to your use of language.

Yes, I blame my phone, because I use text to speech as I was born without arms. It's not perfect, but it helps me get through the day and access the world. God Bless you and thanks for looking at my post

Nothing you say is what I did, said, or implied.

Yes, it was a long post. It is not a "wall". You removed every paragraph break when you quoted it. A wall is one block. I broke it into paragraphs. The way you edited and quoted it makes things difficult to read. That is the definition of a wall. Maybe it was a book? Big Grin

Do you not understand what TL;DR means? That is where I already broke it down IN ADVANCE, for those who do not like reading long posts. I even separated that from the post.

Your "breakdown" reinterpretation is not at all what I said. Nor is it a correct representation of my thoughts or actions.

If you think your data is not leaked, you are naive. If you want to mitigate that going forward (as I mentioned) by not using apps that want permissions that make you scared, good for you. Your choice!

A diet that does not forbid fast food completely is my choice and also the choice of those who like this deal post.

I explained my points in depth, instead of just making a blanket statement or telling others what they should do.
