These Barricuda are not enterprise drives, have 9-5 M-F duty cycle and 1 year warranty. It is very tempting however but what good is blowing $250 if the drive lasts 2 years.

wow after all this time, i never knew about enterprise drives! good to know. i have hard drives for my Plex server that I keep on 24/7, and they keep dying every 3-5 years. so annoying! are enterprise drives good for Plex, do you know? is it basically just a more reliable hard drive, meaning I can simply copy my media files to it? also, what brand/model u recommend? if i keep a lookout on a deal, what's a good deal per GB? sorry for all the questions lol

Your doomer prediction makes sense on paper but is not backed up by actual pricing history for hard drives. The industry has been a duopoly for years now yet we have been graced with by far the cheapest TB/$ deal to date right here. Weird time for you to post this comment frankly.

No worries, I notmally purchase recertified enterprise drives and they come w/ a 5 year warranty. Serverpartsdeals and gohard drive are the major suppliers of these recertified drives. If you buy them new they are very expensive.

There are offbrands of these guys water panther and mdd.

The two major drive vendor are seagate and western digital, there is toshiba but not frequent in the US as much.

HC530 or HC540 are drives from WD, Exos are drives from Seagate.

Just be sure to get SATA ones, not SAS (those require a special controller)

For what it's worth, I purchased two 22TB Expansion Hard Drives (STKP22000400) at $216/per and one 18TB Expansion Hard Drive (STKP18000402) at $198/per from Seagate directly in late July. Per the warranty tracker after serial number inputs, the 22TB drives showed 'warranty information not available' but when i clicked on 'product support' from that same page, it took me to the info sheet for the Ironwolf drives. When I did the same for the 18TB drive, it confirmed that internal drive was an Exos X18. I reached out to customer service, and they confirmed the drives in the 22TB expansion packs I received were actually the Exos X22 drives (which would be wild, if true).

I suspect that the 22TB drives are actually the non-Barracuda (but Barracuda-re-labled with different specs), but I don't think i'll ultimately shuck them because I was hoping a partition would allow me to use these larger drives in my Reolink NVS16 NVR (doesn't seem like that's going to be possible). Ran CrystaldiskInfo with the intent to shuck these, but don't really know what i'm looking for. Definitely 7200rpm.

Manufacturers typically calculate hard drive capacity using the decimal system (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes).
Operating systems, on the other hand, often use the binary system (1 GB = 1,073,741,824 bytes).
26 / 1.073741824 = 24.214

I brought this one 3 days ago from BB. it came the next day. I opened it last night and it doesn't work. I can hear the head fork moving, but disk doesn't spin. Will have to take it to BB store and hope they will replace it.

I bought this and transferred all my photos to this to replace an old backup. I was very disappointed with the speed. I've got 5 other external drives including SSDs. I copied all of these onto this drive to make it all in one spot. The speed never got above 40 mbs even with ssd drives. It was taking 6 hours to copy 2 tb of info. I checked all setting nothing off. My other drives were much quicker. Slow on opening photos too. Wouldn't use for everyday use. Seagate comeon. Why not use a current type C cord. You're like 10 years behind on the one you used.

sorry new to doordash on uber pick up is near the top of the app and only offered at select stores. I don't see bestbuy offering that least not in my location? do they at yours?

It sounds like it's falling back to USB 2.0 speeds. Make sure both ends of the cable are securely connected or try another cable.

The actuator ("head fork") cannot move unless the disk is spinning.

By default, ext4 reserves 5% of the volume's capacity. You can disable that by running this command (with the appropriate drive ID):

sudo tune2fs -m0 /dev/sdX#

The other possibility is the difference between TB and TiB, as someone else mentioned.
