Many users complain about the same issue - the big plastic gear breaks and there is no replacement part. I will skip this one

I have this - actually used it today. Had it for a few years and only use it when I need something portable. (Today I made the rounds at cemeteries. . . used it to trim an azalea bush, clear grass/weeds near a footstone and some vines/weeds that were growing around the stones.) Battery does not lose a charge, even after months of not using it. (I couldn't find the cord to recharge last night and it still worked!)

I read the reviews - there are complaints about unavailability of replacement parts. I can't comment on heavy use. For larger jobs, I want/need a trimmer that has a long handle. For small jobs, especially away from home, this is very convenient.

I own this same tool from Sun Joe that I've had since 2010, 15 years! I didn't use it heavily, but it's lasted through the years and still works great! I rarely had to charge it and can also attest that the battery holds charge well during long periods of no usage. Very handy around the yard in places a mower or edger won't reach.

Would this be ok for like cutting down grass that's just too high for the mower to pass through even on the highest blade setting? considering a machete or scythe but something like this seems like a safer alternative

i am looking for one of these, and see one of the reviews said the charger does not auto shutoff. that would be concerning for me, for the person i would be giving this to.
