This is usually $25 a gallon at my local Wal-Mart. Great deal. I did drain and fills and filter replacements of 2/3 of my transmissions and will be in for another 3 gallons to finish my 3rd.

Your life will be a lot easier if you just pull the return line off the transmission cooler and circulate through all new fluid. Why only change part of it?

I drained and filled 5 times on the two I did this with, with 200 miles between each.

The reason I didn't do the return line trick was this car hadn't had it's fluid changed in 250k miles. I was scared of the old mechanic lore that a real "flush" would disrupt the tranny.

I didn't phrase it right. I did partial drain and fills, drove 200 miles, then repeat a few times.
The first car hadn't had it's tranny fluid changed in 250k miles, so I was very scared of transmission damage, and wanted to be as gentle as possible.

Once all the drain and fills were done I finally changed the filter after another 200 miles since my mechanic friends told me "In transmissions that have been neglected this wrong the filter could be the only think keeping pressure in there."

But I hated the idea of a dirty filter in there with 250K miles of crap, so I changed it too.

Excellent
The filters though arent anything like an oil filter ...more like screens
