This comment is widely misunderstood. The China thing isn't a commentary on Chinese manufacturing, it's that Zojirushi has a different line of lower quality products made in China vs the Japanese line. The machines are different, and rice purists (snobs? you decide...) say it's a noticeable difference.

China has the ability to make whatever quality the customer wants. the reason why americans have a bad perception of chinese manufacturing is because all of the american companies go there and ask for the cheapest lowest quality option available.

Same, same. Spent a vacation visiting friends in Hawaii, and they made rice in a Zojirushi, and I swear I had never tasted rice like that before. My Japanese-made Zoji was my first purchase when I got home, and it has been used regularly since 2017. I'm Mexican-American and use it to make sopa de arroz, and it crushes it every time.

Japan is the way to go with this. With few exceptions, Chinese made products excel at cost cutting over quality.

They do sell replacement pots but they're pricey as Ishh125 said. Anyone that mentions Instant Pot on Zojirushi (or other dedicated rice cooker) threads has clearly never used one. I've got a Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy and an Instant Pot and the Zoji makes better rice, period.
It also allows you to prep the rice and turn on the machine before work, then come home to fresh, fluffy rice that will stay that way for upwards of 24 hours if left on warm. The IP is good at a lot of things and the rice it makes is fine and easier than stovetop but it can't touch a Zojirushi.
Also, someone makes a comment like this on every single rice cooker thread. It's a good thing this wasn't a deal on a $300+ induction/pressure cook model or your head would have exploded.

Unfortunately this is a rather old model. If you look at current Zoji or Tiger models available in Japan, those are vastly superior (and more expensive). But if you look at feature-equivalent models in Japan, those can actually be cheaper than US models.
With all that said, this is a decent price for what you get. Still much better than generic rice cookers here in US.
Zoji and Tiger tend to have their inferior RoW models, like this one, made in China. Funny Xiaomi actually had a rice cooker that is probably superior to this Zoji model. And much cheaper considering the exchange rate.

I kinda agree and also disagree- I recently upgraded my water heater from Zoji from a Made in China version years ago to a Made in Japan version. Granted the technology might be better now but I have noticed that the Japanese one rarely gets rusty. The old one I had to use the citrus acid to clean fairly often to remove rusty spots vs the new one only gets rusty once when I left it empty for almost 2 months (and citrus acid was able to remove it completely). However, if you compare the prices and its longevity, I'd say it's similar if you average it out- meaning if it's cheaper, you get a shorter life out of it vs. if it's more expensive, you get a longer one out of it.

The scratching is also likely from people placing their pot to dry and it getting scratched by whatever else is in the drying rack.

That's because the typical American wants the cheapest item they can find and want it now. There is no total cost of ownership like buying a product for a little more and having it last 5x longer. Then they misuse, don't maintain, don't clean and complain a product didn't last. I've go 40 yo bean boots and Sorrels.
