On a side note, have there been any tests showing counterfeit filters failing to meet the NSF certifications of the OEM filters?

I compared the filters I received side by side with my old filter that I had received directly from Whirlpool and there were multiple manufacturing variations. I also cut both my original filter and one of the new ones open and they were nothing alike inside. The genuine product has much more carbon filtration. The seller went from insisting they were genuine in the first email to saying they were equivalent to the genuine filter and used the same technology in the next communication. They eventually refunded me after I suggested reporting them for selling counterfeit products.

So to answer your question, yes...if you have a genuine filter to compare it to.
