Are these "real" quality Crescent tools? Or "Crescent-in-name-only" outsourced from somebody else?

Apex tool group. I'm sure the wrenches are fine, but they're a shadow of what they used to be. I bought a stubby ratcheting screwdriver and it broke. Instantly. Returned via customer service and replacement one broke same exact way.

I like how in their own stock photos, one of the screwdrivers is a defect.

Also I have a $6.18 Amazon promo credit on this item. Possibly from a previous Crecent purchase. I'm not sure.

I have a 20 year old set different but similar to this one (has all 3 socket sizes and ratchets 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, no adjustable wrench) and it's been great. The tool case is junk but the ratchets, sockets, and screw drivers have been good. The plastic tabs broke off of the old case and I'm not convinced the new ones are a much better design from other reviews that I have read. You can always tie something around it, as annoying as that might be for some. Anyway great deal...after reading other comments I'm disappointed that the quality may have dropped. Apex owns a lot of tool brands including Gearwrench and the lesser known SATA. I believe Apex makes some of Husky's brand handtools as well, I've actually read it on the shipping boxes at Home Depot. What does that mean about this set? It's better than an unknown brand but quality may still need to be proven on newer manufactured tools.

I can't phantom what you guys are breaking tools doing but I've never broken any tool in over 5 decades of working on cars. Thats even using non impact sockets on an impact gun. I'm sure this set is great for a new home owner or 1st tool set for a family member, save the Snap On tools for the will…
The only negative I see is they should have had a regular pliers instead of a dedicated wire cutter, the throat of a pliers has a wire cutter that can be used in a pinch.
It's sad to have seen our tools go so far down hill but hopefully tool manufacturering will return to the good old USA & once again we will have quality tools!

I bought this in Dec 2016 @ $87, another in Jan 2022 @ $82. They're great to have a set in each car for emergency and they seems to held up fine so far, and this is from a diy level not professional commercial work. My complaint is the case SUCKS, the red tabs break off easily especially the top ones and you have to open it "behind" the handle. Also the default pic shows what I bought before but Amazon shows the layout a bit different, not a complaint here though. Overall I'm still pleased with it so I'm up for one to put in my parents car in case. Thanks OP

How do you find out the actual manufacturer?

I have a similar set that was on a deal here a couple years ago and these are great as a keep in the trunk set of tools to just have the basics whenever you might need them.
