As with all T-mobile offers, test it out yourself online by login in and test checkout. No one know for sure if it works for your account since plans have hundreds of SOCs and some SOCs are excluded. If the promotion applies online through your account, then it should work through other retail channels like Costco or phone.

OFFER ID R261 Smartphone Trade ID250462
1) Have or switch to a qualifying rate plan. Already a T-Mobile customer and not sure what plan you are on? Check here to see your current plan.
2) Purchase a new Google Pixel 10 128 GB on a monthly payment plan and pay the applicable sales tax on the pre-credit price at time of purchase; plus $35 device connection charge.
3) Trade in an eligible device in good condition:

For most of us, all we need to do is to upgrade a line and trade-in. This includes us on $10 or less lines. Again, test it out yourself online through your account.

1) Phone is locked to T-mobile until EIP is fully paid and 40 days of usage on a line. Your monthly device payments is net $0 because the RDC cancels out the EIP, if you qualified for R261. You will lose RDC if you pay off EIP early, so T-mobile basically locks you in for 2 years.
2) EIP financing is over 24 months. Reddit rumors are T-mobile is planning to move to 36 months, so get this while you can.
3) You can request short term temp unlocks a couple times a year for travel. If you do this then try to sell the phone as unlocked, you are scum.
4) You will be charged sales tax on full device value at checkout.
5) Multiple EIPs with unique promotions can be stacked on a single line, up to your financing limit of your account. This can be done online or in person (system automates it, but a rep may push back on it). So if you already have a line with another EIP with a different RDC promotion, you can stack R261 on it. But don't recommend stacking multiple R261 on a single line, that may cause problems.
6) Samsung S10's can be purchased through ebay for little over $100. Some sellers even sell qualified T-mobile S10 trade-ins for ~$120. Prices will go up as demand goes up.
7) Trade-ins just need to be in good condition and not be stolen / blacklisted. The specific criteria is in the online trade-in checker. Carrier locked is okay; stolen / password / blacklisted / google / apple locked will be rejected.
8) Costco is the best retail channel if you are a member. No $35 DCC fee, $100 costco giftcard for upgrading (limit 1 per line per year), and 90 days return policy vs 15 days everywhere else. Phone will be shipped to you from T-mobile.
9) You are strongly recommended to complete your trade-in at a T-mobile store (ideally, an Experience store). Trade-in is completed immediately, and once completed you are done. No waiting for shipping, no lost / damaged in shipping, no lost promotion due to failed evaulation.

So many comments and questions.

If you have a Costco membership, DEFINITELY work this deal by calling the T-Mobile Costco number: 833-428-1765
You will save the $35 activation/connection fee + get a Costco Cash card. I have done the upgrade through this number 5 times and they've been gone through smoothly all 5 times. I got $630 total in monthly credits on an iPhone 16 Pro Max purchase, 3 Motorola Edge 2024s (by trading in older phones that I got for free), and $500 total in monthly credits for a Motorola Razr 2024. I shipped all the trade-in phones back. They are confirmed as received within 2 days of the tracking number showing "delivered".

Pro tip: Take a video of the phone you're shipping for trade-in. Showing that it powers up, and navigate to the IMEI screen to prove it has the same IMEI as what's you gave them over the phone. Once T-Mobile sends you the text that they received your trade-in, you can delete the video.

If you have a Pixel 8 or above, you should be buying a Samsung Galaxy S10 or S10e (around $100-125 on eBay or Swappa) for trade-in instead of trading in your Pixel. The Pixel 8 can be sold for ~$200 and Pixel 9 is more. Trading in anything that can be sold for $200 or more is leaving money on the table. I saw a commenter saying he traded in multiple Pixel 9s and that made my head hurt. If you're already on Pixel 9, you really don't have much of a reason to spend ~$100 (taxes on this deal) to upgrade, unless you really want the TSM manufactured Tensor G5.

The Pixel 10 purchased through this deal will be LOCKED to T-Mobile. The phone needs to be paid off to be unlocked. Paying off the balance of the EIP (Equipment Installment Plan) will forfeit the monthly credit. HOWEVER, T-Mobile has free texting and free (slow) data for many countries, and you can also request that the phone be temporarily unlocked for your trip.

This is NOT necessarily a good deal for folks looking to switch to T-Mobile, but is definitely a good deal for those of us on an older T-Mobile plan such as Simple Choice, Magenta, etc. For example, I'm on Simple Choice, with 9 lines and a 5G Home Internet service, and I'm paying about $205/month. I am not leaving T-Mobile anytime soon. Even if they start charging me $5 more per line, my plan is still cheaper than any other carrier, including the MVNOs.

Anyone else have issue with their trade-in credit? My mailed in a Samsung s20 fe with a value of $35. I received a message that they processed my trade-in on 9/14. I still don't see the $35 credit for the value of the phone. I do see the monthly credit of $31.88 for the promotion though. I chatted on T-Life but the rep doesn't understand...
I also completed the trade-in in-store and received the credit immediately. Are you 100% sure that you didn't see the $35 credit on your online account? It should be a line item in your billing under "Adjustments". For me the line item was called "Device Recovery Credit - POS".

I would double check to see that it hasn't reflected it yet and see if there is any documentation. I would try to go into a store and talk to a Tmobile rep to see if they can track down what is going on.

Can someone help confirm something for me? I traded a phone that gave me the $400 off creditcfor a 128gb pixel 10.

For this month's bill I'm seeing, with the promotional discount, a monthly charge for the phone for about $20. Is that correct?

I also traded in my old phone at a T-Mobile b&m store and got a receipt for the $75 trade in credit, but I'm not seeing that credit anywhere on my latest bill.

Does it just take a while to post? Or is something wrong? And is my monthly promotional credit correct?

I think that sounds correct.
If your monthly bill is 20.
20x24=480
Take away the 75 instant credit for the phone that you trade-in, then you will be paying 405. (ie you are getting 394 (give or take a few dollar due to rounding) credit.

The cash value for the trade-in device should be credited to your account immediately upon the trade-in agreement is completed. If you trade in the phone at the store, you should get the credit immediately once the store has verified the phone's condition, they should give you a receipt for it. I got my credit like a few minutes after I got the receipt.

Just FYI...I spoke with Customer Care (611) and called a Tmobile retail store and they confirmed the Pixel 10 promotions in particular this R261 promo code are expiring effective 10/2. So this means you can still place orders through 10/1 and still qualify for the promotion but you have to act fast.

I did talk with Customer Care and I think some people have mentioned this in this long thread already in that you can place an order with a different IMEI phone to get the order in and then when you have your desired IMEI device you want to trade in, then the rep can update the phone/IMEI in the system to qualify you for the actual promo.

I attached the screenshot of the Tmobile promos that a Tmobile rep showed me for promo code R261

Please don't ask dumb questions. Don't make it seem like its a genuine question. Think about what you wrote. Why in the heck would there be no problems with submitting something different.
Because sometimes people find the true device that they want to submit but couldn't find it at the time. Obviously the desire is to trade in an older flagship to maximize the value. Customer Care said that they can do it. They said at the end of the day until you trade in a device that fits one of those 2 categories your promotion is not valid so they will reflect the promotion value based on what you actually submitted to Tmobile assuming it passed the IMEI check and physical check.

The said if you mail it in the people processing the trade in will verify the device details and if it does not match up they will update the trade in to reflect the actual trade in device details for the promotion.

Not true. Last year for the 9 pro, I just submitted a fake IMEI, and traded in the S10E later on. It still worked.
To do this did you have to do this through the mail in process or were you able to still trade in the device in-store?

Thanks, as good things comes to an end...

I did the deal in person at Costco Tmob kiosk and it is NOT possible to change the IMEI # after you sign up. CSR called Tmob help desk, and even they could not override the wrong IMEI # and tech support documented the issue with the correct IMEI #, and I noted it on the returned S10e. Of course, the discrepancy was discovered when they received the trade-in but got resolved without me calling a day later.

I went to talk to an in-store Tmobile rep yesterday just to understand what they see on their tablet and what he explained to me is that when you trade in the device at the store, their tablet asks them to enter/scan the IMEI just like what you did when you placed the order. However if you trade in a different device than what you signed up for initially to place the order, it gives them a popup warning message saying something like "the IMEI's don't match and that there is a chance the promotions may not apply correctly, do you want to continue" and they will select "Yes". However he mentioned that even though it is not the ideal situation of not having the correct IMEI in the first place, it is fixable and I guess he said they just have to document the correct IMEI # to get it applied and understands that there are various reasons why people would trade in a different device than what they originally registered the phone order with.

I think what you said was correct in that they are technically not able to update the IMEI during the trade in process and yeah I think the Customer Care guy maybe didn't understand fully what the retail store system shows. I don't know why the Tmobile system is set up to not allow them to just modify the IMEI on the fly and the system just rearranges the numbers to ensure it works. It should be more flexible to accommodate what the actual device you are trading in for the promotion values.

Costco number is still working for this deal. The hours for the Costco T-Mobile phone line are 9 AM-9 PM CST Monday-Friday, 9 AM-6 PM CST Saturday-Sunday. Like others in the thread I was told this promotional EIP can't be added to a line currently on an EIP so I used an empty line. The device connection charge (DCC) was not coming off at first but the rep tried again and it was automatically deducted. Make sure that the only amount you are paying is sales tax on the full retail price.

I just did the 2nd and 3rd deal at the local Costco Tmob kiosk today for Pro XL with 2 Galaxy S10e bought from eBay. One S10e had cracked glass on the rear camera and was told it's acceptable as focus is on clean IMEI with a non-broken front screen.\

BTW - blue Pro XL is back ordered, so I got the black.

Nice. Good work.

The deal is officially dead. The trade in credit is now the standard $500 for flagship phones and $250 for really old flagships/mid range phones.

I returned 2 phones today at the experience store. due date is 10/4. shortly after I got a message saying 1 line monthly bill credit has ended because promo ended or status changed. I looked at the receipt for that line and saw that they cancelled the original offer and did a new accepted offer with the condition being different model. it's the same phone with the same IMEI number. somehow the description of the original has phone color as green and the accepted offer as blue. I called the Costco number but I don't think the rep understands. she said ignore message and all promotion apply in 1 to 2 cycle.

Ok so the takeaway is that nothing was affected on the actual promotion other than they updated the color of the device with the same IMEI?
