It could be a lack of power issue. I am planning to use it with a powered usb 3.0 hub.

I have one of these from a previous deal, and it works fine for my uses, which is backups of my rom collection. It's no frills, the case does collect fingerprints, but I ended up putting stickers on it.

Thanks! I had a few of them but I lost track of them. I just ordered one as I have 2.5 " ssd sitting around.
There was a time when that hard drive cable alone costed more than $5.

I have one and I've only ever used it on my power hub so that might be a case, because it's worked perfectly for me

ORICO products appear as if they don't care about thermal management nor reliability. Their hard drive NAS/DAS have fans but airflow is entirely blocked by the PCB. Their hard drive docks are either hot boxes like this one or wrap around the drive to let them bake to death. ORICO moves a ton of units through pricing and pretty design, but don't ever buy their products if you care about reliability and longevity.
