These typically need 2nd battery to finish a task. 40v 4ah battery runs $179 retail.

He's saying if you want a second battery you can't get a spare 6ah Kobalt. They list one, but it's never available. This mower (and the self-propelled version) are the only way to currently get a Kobalt 6ah battery, they don't even offer any other 40v equipment with the 6ah version.

Seems like a deal, $50 less than the battery alone.

Agree that the battery is weak sauce, but this is the same price I paid about 4 years ago. When you factor in inflation, and now I'll have two mowers and two batteries, it's a win-win.

I bought this mower and returned it. Mostly as I felt I was fighting it for certain sections of my yard. Grass wasn't more than 4in. Another drawback for this is Kobalt doesn't offer a 6ah battery. You have to settle with a 4ah or get an off brand 6ah from websites such as Amazon (less than $100 at the moment) if you need a spare

I have one of these, not sure of generation though since mine is a few years old. It works great. Only bad thing is I need a battery for the backyard and another battery for the front yard. Luckily I have two since I got a deal on a weed whacker/blower combo a while back that included another battery. I think this is a very good deal, much better if you have another battery lying around.

No. They key the battery case.
You can't find a blade for this under the Kobalt name.
Get the Greenworks blade, as I recall it had two heart keys for alignment, buy the green painted blade only.
The unpainted blade listed at the same length with not fit.
Blades need 0.5, 1 inch clearance between the side deck. To prevent a rock or a stick from jamming the blade tip against the side of the deck.
YMMV, your risk.

I have this mower and it is tuff. If you have a bigger yard or let the grass get high you will need a second battery, even if it is a smaller one.

The massive amount of 1 star reviews all saying the same thing should be enough to convince an honest person.
(insufficient power and lack of runtime)

it depends on yard size and how often you cut. My yard is relatively small (under 3000 sq ft total) and I always cut it to 3/4 inch, mulched, never let it get more than an inch over what I cut and this mower is perfect.

I have a 5Ah battery that I've had for years (lawn cuts in Michigan from May to Nov, including mulching leaves) and I can almost always do the whole lawn

Do I wish I had a little more power, yeah, and probably will upgrade if this dies, but I have the OG it does the job.

Also, screw Lowe's for how they have screwed their employees over the years. so the battery has a 3 year warranty. Call them at 2.5 years and tell them your battery is dead and they'll send you a new one free of charge 😉

I have one of these and the battery died after 1 year. They made me bring the entire mower and battery + charger in to a store to exchange it for a new one. That was the only way they were willing to handle it (they did handle it though).

I have one of these, and they are only really ok for maintaining a lawn height. If you are trying to go lower in the fall, it lacks any power for that and will stall constantly. It will also burn through the battery like crazy. You have to mow at your summer height, recharge the battery, then drop the height one notch and mow again but this time probably only get half-way through before you have to recharge again. Repeat until you get to the height you want.
The bag is tiny too. If you are bagging, be prepared to stop every 2-3 minutes to empty it (not a joke).
