This is a great unit for those who are curious. Also a great price for a dual hose, inverter, heat pump unit. I didn't one of these to the lobby of our business to help in the summer and winter from being so cold in there, and it runs like a top. Is also very quiet compared to other portable units.
Or they're complaining about stuff like water drainage issues, which is due to the humidity of the places they chose to live in.
Or "I Had to hire a contractor to carry it up the stairs and install it." That's not Midea or Costco's fault.

And here's the best to worst hierarchy of air conditioning solutions applicable to most people when it comes to efficiency, comfort, and versatility:
Central HVAC ($$$$) > Mini Split AC ($$$) > Window AC Unit ($$) > Portable AC Unit ($$) > Evaporative (Swamp) Cooler ($$/$)
The prices shown basically show your up front cost in buying the equipment/installation, but not what you pay over time with electricity usage.
A central HVAC or Mini-Split (though much more pricey, and for most NOT DIY to install) will generally be much more efficient than a Window AC Unit, which in turn is generally much more efficient than a Portable AC Unit. A swamp cooler can be a cheaper effective tool but not comfortable or functional in moderate to high humidity climates.
The sweet spot for most people without significant DIY or Pro installation is for sure a Window AC
Unit. These are just so much more efficient and quiet indoors, and if you have an outward facing window and no HOA that will complain about it, it's the way to go.
I only used a Portable AC Unit for a while out of desperation, because HOA doesn't allow Window AC units.
I use mine about 11pm-8-am in San Diego and I believe my bills only went up $20-$40/mo. Granted, the inside air is 80 F, the outside air is 68 F, and I'm cooling to 70 F. It definitely runs the compressor but the amount of work it has to do is probably pretty minimal.
Why not just open the window in that case?
