This is a great unit for those who are curious. Also a great price for a dual hose, inverter, heat pump unit. I didn't one of these to the lobby of our business to help in the summer and winter from being so cold in there, and it runs like a top. Is also very quiet compared to other portable units.
Or they're complaining about stuff like water drainage issues, which is due to the humidity of the places they chose to live in.
Or "I Had to hire a contractor to carry it up the stairs and install it." That's not Midea or Costco's fault.

does the invertor tech not help in this regard?
I got one of these refurbished for $199.99 from Walmart about a month ago. Our wiring isn't the greatest and I have problems running my computer while gaming and a higher than 5000 BTU air conditioner on the same circuit. When I first got it I tried playing my computer after I first turned on this portable unit and unfortunately it blew the breaker. I tried again later after the air conditioner had been running for awhile and it was cooled down and haven't had a problem since so the inverter is definitely using less power after it reaches the set temp.

This is what the Amazon driver left outside my door and ran......without knocking.

If you do need this type of AC unit, the double hose is critical to having even moderately acceptable performance. The nice thing about this is it's a "double hose" built into one hose. Makes hookup marginally easier than dealing with two distinct hoses, while still having the efficiency gain of being able to vent hot air outside the air conditioned space.
"Portable" is what is used to define these types of units but they aren't portable in the conventional sense. Since you need an external hose venting outside, it's not easily portable. Just portable relative to an in-window unit.
For smart functionality, it's cool[1] that this supports matter. This means even if they stop supporting cloud functionality (which will probably happen before the product dies) smart functionality remains possible for local control.

This thing is a energy hog. Be warned, your electric bills will double.
The previous model Midea 12,000 BTU 3-in-1 portable AC without inverter tech has the EnergyGuide estimated yearly energy cost of $123 with a 7.9 efficiency ratio. This model currently sold at Costco is listed at $68/year, 13.8 efficiency ratio.
Kinda misleading, but I see your point. All I know is that after using this unit last year, between June - October, my bills went from $143/mo to $297-336/mo. We used the unit between 9pm - 2am and 12pm - 4pm.
I use mine about 11pm-8-am in San Diego and I believe my bills only went up $20-$40/mo. Granted, the inside air is 80 F, the outside air is 68 F, and I'm cooling to 70 F. It definitely runs the compressor but the amount of work it has to do is probably pretty minimal.

My question is regarding the dual hose. It seems the round part is the hot exhaust air and the other part is the intake? If so, it would seem the intake is just sucking the hot exhaust air back in! I'm going to buy some exhaust vents to mount on the garage side of the wall that will vent the hot exhaust air DOWN, and then the intake air part will be just ambient garage temp air.
It's too bad these things don't have a recirculation mode so I'm not having to cool down hot in-take air...like my car, just keep the already cool air cool...
It shows at $450 in the warehouse section of the app and out of stock in many places.
