USB A is the large conector we are used to. USB 3.0 is the standard that adds an 2 extra superspeed channels using 8 or 9 wires to achieve 5 Gbits. USB C is the new small conector. USB 3.2 gen 1 is the higher speed version of USB 3.0 using higher speed switching to achieve 10 Gbits. USB 3.2 gen 2 uses the extra wires in USB C to achieve 10 - 20 Gbits (18 wires, 24 pins) There are others B, micro, mini, micro B, too many to list.

You can share the drive on your home network, or use an OTP adapter for your phone I believe (at least on Android).

Not exactly what you're asking for, but I use an android app called FolderSync (the free version) to back up to a mini PC I have always on at home. I set up an ssh key to do it securely. Every night when I plug in my phone, it backs up any new photos I've taken automatically. It takes some setup, but I thought I would share that in case you find it useful. Automatic backup is a little more convenient.

ok, I did open my second Seagate 26TB external hard drive and made a snapshot of the speed of the downloaded files plus temps of drives.

The second snapshot is after about 11 hours of downloading. So this gives actually speeds I get and temps. I have fan pointing directly into the drive to keep temps down.

Drive was never taken out of enclosure, unboxed it, plugged it in, and let it rip.

When I get done downloading the 10 TB, I will unplug it, put it back in box it came in and put in closet/drawer. Simple ... and should only have about 14-16 hours on it or less.

It's basically a moot point. All high capacity drives are helium. I think the biggest air drive you can get is ~12TB. Also, helium leakage doesn't seem to be a major issue. Helium drives have been out for well over a decade and there are relatively few reports of it causing problems.

Is there a quick and easy way to dock my phone to this to download all the photo and video I take, say once a month? I'm paying for Google drive cloud Storage right now, but of course as you use more the annual price keeps going up.

Better off going with an external drive like this one?
Lots of opinions on this topic but I have been using Photosync app via Android and iphone for 7 years or so and it has been great. You need to install the server software on your computer and then the mobile clients on your phones. I run a server 24/7 so it is easy to run this on there.
For extra security for those memories you want to keep forever, backup onto a second computer or into the cloud.

3.5″ is the size of the disk inside the hard drive. The case is a bit bigger to fit the parts and keep it cool, but it's still a 3.5″ drive and will fit in a standard PC case.

Can anyone that's bought this model tell me if this one has a power on/off switch on it? I hate that the Western Digital ones never do. Looking for a drive like this for an emulation drive.

no it doesn't, you an get either a smart plug or just a regular one though.

I would use NVMe or SSD's to load your emulation stuff on , and use this seagate to back up your files in safe place, ...if your original NVMe/SSD crashs and burns you got backup on this seagate 26TB device stored in your closet. Also this Seagate needs external power plug, the nvme/ssd externals don't need external power.

I don't know how much emulation space you need. I TB, 5TB, 10 TB, and how much space do you actively use. I have lots of games, but only put 1-5tb stuff on 5 TB portable WD drive, it doesn't need power plug, ... WD drive is mech drive ... I have a number of NVMe externals that are much, much faster . 500 MB/s or 1,000 MB/s. And this seagate is 225 MB/s. And the WD portables are 110 MB/s.

FYI, these are SMR drives. CMR is preferred in regular use for rewriting space on the drive.

I bought 2 of these exact drives the last month ago for 250 dollars. So 26 x 2 is around 50 TB of data (give or take a little).I will leave them in their enclosures! I will use them ONLY to move STUFF to them to fill them, and then UNPLUG drive and put it back in Box it came in. The transfer rate for me is between 200-230 MB/S ... which is good for mech hard drive.I have 3 or 4 4TB nvme drives, and a number of 1TB nvme drives ... and about 10 5 TB WD portables, and 2 NAS'S and 4 4-bay DAS'S, plus 10 500gb microSD stuff, and 10 usb 250gb sticks. Etc . I don't need more super fast transfer drives, but 26 TB mech drive is slower, but it holds a lot more data. I do have 3 copies of stuff on different media. I sort of got into habit of buying storage, and I have to "peaceful talk to MYSELF" and say enough is enough. We all are trying to figure out what we "need", ... so LIVE and LET LIVE. I have no idea what is right for you, and you don't know what is right for me. BUT I LOVE you guys sharing your experience with this stuff, because as you tell me what works and doesn't work for you, it helps me. Thanks guys.
was it really easier to say "give or take a little" than it would have been to just complete the math problem and state "52TB" ? 😂

I am in a very similar boat as you. But I have always avoided Seagates for their low reliability. I've stuck to WD, Gtech, Toshiba, and one Adata. Have you owned Seagates prior to this? The TB/$ does seem decent and I do need some extra storage at the moment.
Who told you seagate was unreliable? I recommend giving the Exos drives a shot I have refurbs in my NAS that have been perfect for at least the last 5 years. They're running right alongside the WD red and white labels.

If you have the latest Android, you should have the USB 3.1 "C" connection. If your Android is older, then it should be the USB 3.0 connection, see pics attached.
At Amazon: USB 3.1 Micro B to USB C Hard Drive Cables, 3.3FT 10 Gbps USB C to Micro B, External Hard Drive Cable Compatible with MacBook Pro/Air, iPad/Tablet, iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S24, WD Seagate etc

... I do get where you are coming from, but there is reason I put it the way I did. ... Yeah it is a 26TB Seagate ... but the useable space availalbe is around 23TB ... so I figured if I said give or take a little .... I could be true to my integrity (instinctive in me)

... a lot of people still think a 26TB hard drive as 26TB of usable space but only has 23 TB of usuable space ... so 2 of these 26 TB seagates only have 46TB of usable space ...so that is why I answered the way I did. So fuzzy math. Smilie
