Is the consensus still Black Friday being the best time to buy a new gaming PC? I am fine with waiting if there will be much better deals. And for this deal, since it is 16x1 memory, I assume I could just add another 16 stick to this if I want to get to 32?

some nice sales on the 5070 going on right now. You can build this for slightly more. Based on my research its may very well be worth it to spend the extra 30 dollars or so to go with a 14600k

Yes, easy enough to add another 16gb stick

This is the best deal for the money, pretty much like a pre-black Friday deal, I haven't seen anything better for the same amount of money the entire year.

Or remove the 16x1 and put in 32x2 ddr5. Full Send!

RAM is sold in sets because even seemingly identical-spec RAM can differ underneath the hood (Hynix vs Samsung, dual rank, etc.). So it's highly recommended not to do this.

What you can do though is to buy 2x16GB sticks of RAM all at the same time from the same set and manufacturer. And sell the RAM that comes with this prebuilt, though you probably can't get much for it.

For those thinking about gaming on just a single 16GB RAM stick, that sucks. Not only do you have less throughput, but 16GB is getting pushed to the limits. Even if you are diligent about closing browser windows and whatever else before starting a game, at least one game (Hogwarts) already slightly stutters with 16GB of system RAM, and HardwareUnboxed noted how many games are already brushing up against 16GB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mklCPWNyJC0

Edit to add: There are only a handful of actual RAM makers and everyone else puts their brand name sticker/heatsink on top. But they sometimes change the underlying RAM chips without saying anything, or the bins are slightly different. See for example:

https://forums.tomshardware.com/t...d.3765930/

https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmaster...other_one/ or https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc...its_risky/

This doesn't mean it can't work to add a second RAM stick of the same model, but it's not entirely risk-free.

They can just buy another single 16gb stick of the same brand and model.

not really that big a deal with ddr5, i mean performance wise its not like ddr4 and below where you really need two stick / dual channel. But yeah this system will need 32gb total sooner than later for newer games and workloads but ddr is pretty affordable....
