100% polyester is literally a requirement for this kind of shirts. You don't want to hike covered in a wet rag normally.

You must be buying the wrong stuff. I've been getting these quick dry 100% polyester shirts in several different brands for full time travel overseas and all of them feel soft. Probably have bought 50+ of them in 12 years. None feel "like a plastic bag" which is just nonsense. They dry quickly after washing in a hotel room or after rain, wick moisture from your body, and are much thinner than cotton which is one of the worst materials for this use.

exactly, dries quickly and is lighter in weight than cotton.

I bought this product about a month ago, thumbhole version. I'd say true to size, fabric is decent, however it's shipped vacuum sealed and even after 1 wash and dry w/dryer sheet I still have creases from the packaging that haven't come out. Maybe they'll come out eventually but it's a little annoying.

I've been on the hunt for these kinds of shirts - the Champion one feels more rubbery, urlhasbeenblocked has various different fabrics. The recent urlhasbeenblocked $2 for $10 is actually decent (no hood). I think I like it more than the Champion fabric.

edit - lol I can't even say the brand name. it has a pin and is related to fire. I didn't try to link anything.

following up on the price, this is probably decent for them. I paid $10 for a single shirt: personally would not want to buy a 2 pack with fixed colors unless price is lower than $10 ea.
