Strongly recommend if you have kids you skip the Pro 3 and get the Pro 2.

The Pro 3 has magnetic buttons that can/do fall off, they allow you to change the cosmetics, but are more hassle than the minor benefit. Plus likely a swallow risk. The charging dock is nice, hall-effect everything is amazing, unfortunately the Ball-Top Joysticks are super uncomfortable, I cannot see people using them instead of the great TMR thumb-sticks.

Hopefully they release a version of the Pro 3 without the magnetic cap gimmick. I get what they were going for, but just sell it as the two cap-styles.

I bought this a week ago in the Gamecube purple color. I bought this intending to use it primarily for retro gaming on PC. Prefer the X-Box layout for modern gaming or just mouse and keyboard for certain genres. But I feel the Playstation layout is great for retro stuff. I cannot recommend this controller due to the D-pad. While it feels really good, just like a SNES era D-pad it does not have responsiveness of that pad. Could not even do a ducking slide in Super Mario Bros. My old X-Box One controller pulls that simple move just fine. Also the face buttons are the loudest I have ever heard. It makes X-Box seem quiet. It's a shame. I really want one of each layout in my arsenal of input options and there aren't many good option for the PS layout that are PC friendly. WHat I would give for a dualshock 4 with actual good battery life and not bluetooth.

Same experience I had with their older generation controller. I exchanged it twice thinking it was defective cause reviews praised the D-Pad. But D-Pad made many retro games unplayable. I have the SNES Nintendo controller and its much better

I have the Pro 2 and agree. I did have to order "Xbox Style" buttons from 8bitdo's site, but iirc they were like $3. On the Pro 2, to swap the buttons, you need to unscrew and open up the controller (it's not that bad) -- but it's not going to void your warranty since they're selling you these parts.
The removable + rechargeable battery, plus AA battery support, make the Pro 2 way more worth it. The battery on this thing already lasts forever, so it's not like you need the charging dock.
The extra shoulder buttons on on the Pro 3 don't look comfortable at all, and not being able to swap the battery sucks.

8bitdo face buttons are always feel very crunchy and "slow". I have a few different models and they feel like they use the same cheap membrane.

For those talking about input problems, they had control bugs including for some diagonal movements that were fixed in firmware updates. Make sure to run the firmware updater, including for firmware on the Bluetooth adapter if you also buy that accessory.
