This, if we want prices to fall we can't be willing keep buying them at current prices. That's the only way.

MSRP? if so, that pretty much means nothing. 5080 was $1k MSRP and they never actually were available for that price until they discontinued production (which was a few days ago)

hold the line
am so glad i built my latest pc with an igpu so i can wait out these card making pigs.
5080 would be my card of choice so i can underclock it for most fan silence,
but i still don't play any games that really need it, so... tick tock.

Worth holding out to see if they have better clearance as the Super's release?
It might be worth holding out to get a Super for similar price (maybe) but if you are hoping for lower priced 5070/5080.... very likely is not going to happen.
Nvidia doesn't do "sales" to clear out stock. They simply stop production of new wafers months in advance to clear out existing inventory prior to release of new cards. It's why it gets harder to find/buy Nvidia GPUs prior to release of a new card, let alone at lower prices. Rumors have it that TSMC expects to stop production on 5070/5070ti/5080 next month so only the wafers that have been made will go into GPU card production.

AMD on other hand keeps up production well into launch of new cards because they can't clear their inventory fast enough... Same reason You can STILL buy RDNA3 cards from official retailers (Newegg, Amazon, BestBuy, Microcenter etc) .... you won't find many if any new RTX4000 series from them.

So if someone needs/wants a video card..... your suggestion is they shouldn't buy anything at all and just not play games/do any work?

This is the leaked price of the 5080 super.
yea that's great an all but 0% chance anyone will get it at that price and we all know this. Thing will be scalped and overpriced for at least 7-11 months minimum.

I still cant believe GPU prices have become this insane. They are often more than the computer system in which it is placed.

Just nuts.

because the SUPER line will have better vram for almost same MSRP. now will you be able to get it at that price? no shot in hell. but will still be priced the same...before the scalpers get their hands on all.

It happened with the 4000 series
Only because the original 4000 were overpriced af. $1200 for the cheapest 4080, what a joke. No wonder you could easily get them almost all the time before they got phased out. Nobody wanted it, the 4090 was a much better value

I know in context this is a worthwhile post, but it's criminal in my book for a $1k GPU to have 16GB of VRAM.

news flash: all gpus have been ridiculously overpriced since the 1080ti.

it's just been normalized. in 10 years, the 5090 will look like a deal.
