when i was in the market - this was on my list. I believe this is a "first gen" griddle from weber. the "slate" line being the newer/improved gen 2. Gen 2 brought some improvements. Some reports of rust issues on these - but imo - maintain any griddle poorly it will rust. i also heard people complaining about wind blowing out flame. Gen 2 addresses that.
Purchased this earlier this year.. If I had to decide between the entry level Blackstone, and the Weber.. I'd take the Weber. Now, if you could find an entry-level Blackstone 36" at a $300 price point.. could easily justify the savings in my mind.. But this particular Weber just feels sturdy. Your side tables are fixed.. but they don't flex or give.. can easily pick up the griddle from the ends without any bend.. The hood mount doesn't feel as robust as some of the more premium Blackstone models.. but as long as you aren't flailing it around, it does just fine. Seasoned 4 times as recommended when I first purchased.. used for numerous cooks, cleaned each time, kept covered in-between uses, and there isn't the first spec of rust on this thing. Definitely was a humid summer here.. I went with the 36" model, as you can never have enough cooking space, even if only for 2 people. A friend of mine has the newer "Slate" model.. I do not think the price difference is justified.. just my no-talent opinion.
