I have it hooked up to a full sized antennae in my attic and a 200 GB External hard drive. I have FIOS Internet and Firesticks.
My channel guide shows 218 channels, of which about 60 of those are over the air and recordable. I picked up far fewer channels with the flat paper antennae.
Initially it had some frustrating hiccups, but a few updates later it works like a charm.
I use it to record/time shift news programs and weekend golf.
99% of the time, it's flawless.
For $50, it's a steal.
EDIT: I have the 4 tuner model.

Some of the major complaints were about their servers going offline and people unable to watch TV. I already had outdoor antenna connections to all my TV's, I was interested in the DVR capability. I simply split the antenna lead to the TV that was closest to my router, connected my Tablo TV via wifi and no issues at all! So, I still have direct antenna connections should their severs have issues again. Best of both worlds, IMO.
I added a 1TB Sandisk USB SSD to the Tablo TV, now I have tons of storage for DVR. I read that if you continue to use the onboard 128GB storage, the device will start to compress files to allow you to store more shows, using an external drive, no compression, full quality shows. Also, as soon as you connect an external drive, all future recordings will use it, old recordings stay on the internal drive.
So far, very impressed with this device, I paid $99 for 4 tuner refurbished unit.
Compare to the recast, it is absolutely fantastic tuner wise. The built-in tuner works so much better than the recast. All my shows come in completely clear and I am able to get channels that I used to not be able to get to with the recast. Another great feature is that it is supported on a lot more platforms, and the recast. Apple TV has an app and I no longer have to mirror my phone. It is not 4K, and you can tell by looking compared to other shows that I stream online, but that was expected and is good enough for just local channels and watching local football games. The only downside I've had so far is that I am not able to stream my shows outside my house, like I was able to with the recast.
Unit can run hot, and mine stopped working all of a sudden. Tried it again about a week later and it was working again. Go figure.
Setup is a little tricky as the only indicator that it's trying is a flashing light. Once connected to your network, it's ok. The channel rescan process isn't bad, my problem is I'm in a hole about 30 miles from the broadcast antennas and I can't get the local ABC nor NBC stations. I need an outside antenna. Of course, not the Tablo's issue. If you can get all the local stations via antenna, it's a good option.
