the number of tuners equates to how many devices can be watching different channels at the same time. 2 tuners means it can tune into and stream 2 different channels at once.

I had one of these and was never happy. Recordings were unplayable pretty frequently even after buying a top of the line external drive specifically for video recording. The lack of an hdmi out is an incredibly weird design choice. Mine eventually completely broke after 11 months and I gave up on trying to fix it since Jeopardy is now on streaming

Tablos return policy. I am sure many of you will be returning this.

Shipping is always free to residents of the United States. And while we hope you love your Tablo, if you're unhappy for any reason we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. Customers must pay for return shipping. See our store policies page for details.

As you can see their free return shipping costs money smh

So how does this connect with Smart tvs? I connect through router and install the app on TVs? Looking to primarily get this to record and watch NFL games. Do you all recommend this for local channels and games?
I use it for this but the one thing to be aware of: it will not let you watch the recording while it's happening if you're on an iOS/iPadOS/Android device. If you think well the game started an hour ago let's just start the game from the beginning on my phone, it will always jump you to Live and not let you watch from the beginning. I had an HDHomeRun with built in hard drive for years and while their interface was clunky to navigate it performed like a DVR should. You can google this issue on Reddit and it seems they're not promising if they'll change this issue.

I've had this model for about a year. I was a previous Amazon Recast user.

I have it hooked up to a full sized antennae in my attic and a 200 GB External hard drive. I have FIOS Internet and Firesticks.

My channel guide shows 218 channels, of which about 60 of those are over the air and recordable. I picked up far fewer channels with the flat paper antennae.

Initially it had some frustrating hiccups, but a few updates later it works like a charm.

I use it to record/time shift news programs and weekend golf.

99% of the time, it's flawless.

For $50, it's a steal.

EDIT: I have the 4 tuner model.

I still have the Recast and it still works fine. Why did you move to Tablo? Just trying to figure out if I need to get this as well. TIA.

How does one "barely" buy something?

Is there an app for the Roku so I don't have to watch tv through a separate device ?

I've been a Tivo OTA user for many years now and absolutely love it. Before that I used a Directv tivo and my parents had a Tivo in the early 2000's. But they've stopped selling the OTA model so I'm worried about what I'll do when my Edge dies. When I switched from the Roamio to the Edge, I briefly tried the Tablo and the Recast and both had some big issues that made them completely inferior to the Tivo. I know for the Tablo, the issues below were big deals for us.

On completed recordings, Tablo provides fast-forward preview thumbnails so you can skip right to the best part.
This is such a big defect that makes FF pretty much useless unless the recording is over. Please correct me if this is somehow okay now but I remember you were basically FF'ing blind.

I have been a Recast user since its inception. Yes, it's not perfect all the time, but it has some features that I like. For example, I can watch my recording or live TV outside my network. It's not always smooth, but it's kind of cool to watch NFL games when you're in a different continent. Tablo doesn't seem to have this feature.

I bought a 4 tuner refurbed unit 2 weeks ago, refurbished unit has currently unreleased firmware version, 2.2.55, seems latest publicly released version is 2.2.54. There are lots of negative reviews previous to August 8th 2025, seems they made some major updates since then and mine has been rock solid!

Some of the major complaints were about their servers going offline and people unable to watch TV. I already had outdoor antenna connections to all my TV's, I was interested in the DVR capability. I simply split the antenna lead to the TV that was closest to my router, connected my Tablo TV via wifi and no issues at all! So, I still have direct antenna connections should their severs have issues again. Best of both worlds, IMO.

I added a 1TB Sandisk USB SSD to the Tablo TV, now I have tons of storage for DVR. I read that if you continue to use the onboard 128GB storage, the device will start to compress files to allow you to store more shows, using an external drive, no compression, full quality shows. Also, as soon as you connect an external drive, all future recordings will use it, old recordings stay on the internal drive.

So far, very impressed with this device, I paid $99 for 4 tuner refurbished unit.

Last year I tried the 4 tuner version since I wanted to move away from Fire TV Recast and the whole Amazon ecosystem. But the Tablo failed in every way, freezing, over heating and it disappeared from my network (Wired/Ethernet connected) from time to time. Still using the Recast and is not perfect but it works.

I just brought a refurbished two tuner a week ago. Coming from a fire TV recast, which is no longer supported by Amazon. I've held onto my recast for quite a while. Sometime channels were a little spotty, but I dealt with it because of the recording capabilities and being able to watch from away.. I recently upgraded all my fire sticks to Apple TVs , which recast does not support. I had to mirror my phone in order to watch TV shows/football games. Recently, I've had power problems with my recast. Since Amazon, no longer support or sells them, I researched and decided to go with this.

Compare to the recast, it is absolutely fantastic tuner wise. The built-in tuner works so much better than the recast. All my shows come in completely clear and I am able to get channels that I used to not be able to get to with the recast. Another great feature is that it is supported on a lot more platforms, and the recast. Apple TV has an app and I no longer have to mirror my phone. It is not 4K, and you can tell by looking compared to other shows that I stream online, but that was expected and is good enough for just local channels and watching local football games. The only downside I've had so far is that I am not able to stream my shows outside my house, like I was able to with the recast.

Also Samsung, and I think LG.

Unit can run hot, and mine stopped working all of a sudden. Tried it again about a week later and it was working again. Go figure.

Setup is a little tricky as the only indicator that it's trying is a flashing light. Once connected to your network, it's ok. The channel rescan process isn't bad, my problem is I'm in a hole about 30 miles from the broadcast antennas and I can't get the local ABC nor NBC stations. I need an outside antenna. Of course, not the Tablo's issue. If you can get all the local stations via antenna, it's a good option.
