the number of tuners equates to how many devices can be watching different channels at the same time. 2 tuners means it can tune into and stream 2 different channels at once.

I had one of these and was never happy. Recordings were unplayable pretty frequently even after buying a top of the line external drive specifically for video recording. The lack of an hdmi out is an incredibly weird design choice. Mine eventually completely broke after 11 months and I gave up on trying to fix it since Jeopardy is now on streaming

Can't speak to Tablo4, but I have an older Tablo Quad... antenna in the attic... coax from there to the Tablo on 3rd floor... and then ethernet in to the back of my wifi access point (right next to the tablo)... its been solid for years. Connect via the Tablo app on TVs with Roku UI. Used to use it more when the kids were PBSkids age, but still use it to record some things and watch with the ability to skip fwd over commercial (vs. watching on Sling where you cannot)

I think you have 10+ years before 3.0 is your only option. Too many outstanding issues to resolve before the previous generation is decommissioned
I dunno if it'll take 10 years, but I agree that it'll be very surprising if the older ATSC is phased out in a year. A ton of markets still have zero ATSC 3.0 broadcasts, so the idea that things will be ready to transition in a year seems really, really optimistic.
Atsc 3 will probably be "skipped". Basically, 4 will come out before 3 is everywhere.
It's just not consumer friendly. They have to fix it.

I have two questions for users.
First off, how is their guide? I currently have a newer android TV and the guide is absolutely terrible; it takes forever to load channel information and doesn't seem to store the info so it needs to load it every time. My previous TV was nearly a decade old and loaded channel info so much faster.
Secondly, how are rescans? Does it remember what channels you deleted/hid when you you do a rescan. My area has a ton of doubles as well as the standard religious/home shopping/shit channels and I hate having to delete them every time I rescan because it takes 15 minutes and I always end up missing some.

Or it will all be replaced by 5g TV. So many potential issues including the current proposals for changes in local tv station ownership rules. Of course, Everything gets better with consolidation.

I had the same experience with several devices. Ethernet connections work great, Wi-Fi not so well. Access points or mesh units come in handy.

can you skip commercials from the recordings? I'm looking to dump TiVo, that's the only feature that keeps me stuck to TiVo.

I have to switch to the same Wifi network as the Tablo is on in order for the app to work. Then once I'm done I switch back to my other network.

From the recording there is no option to "skip" the commercials, I just fast forward through them.

The 4 tuner without antenna is $90 in this deal and $109 at Best Buy.
Thanks and good catch. I bought the 4 tuner direct from Tablo for $90. I have the 2 tuner model, and it has worked well. With football season and the start of the Fall TV shows, I expect I will need more than 2 tuners on several occasions. I use a portable hard drive for recordings. I think BestBuy has a 2 TB Seagate USB HD on sale for $60 for those needing more space.https://www.bestbuy.com/product/s...J37C5H48WF
It ends today.

I just brought a refurbished two tuner a week ago. Coming from a fire TV recast, which is no longer supported by Amazon. I've held onto my recast for quite a while. Sometime channels were a little spotty, but I dealt with it because of the recording capabilities and being able to watch from away.. I recently upgraded all my fire sticks to Apple TVs , which recast does not support. I had to mirror my phone in order to watch TV shows/football games. Recently, I've had power problems with my recast. Since Amazon, no longer support or sells them, I researched and decided to go with this.

Compare to the recast, it is absolutely fantastic tuner wise. The built-in tuner works so much better than the recast. All my shows come in completely clear and I am able to get channels that I used to not be able to get to with the recast. Another great feature is that it is supported on a lot more platforms, and the recast. Apple TV has an app and I no longer have to mirror my phone. It is not 4K, and you can tell by looking compared to other shows that I stream online, but that was expected and is good enough for just local channels and watching local football games. The only downside I've had so far is that I am not able to stream my shows outside my house, like I was able to with the recast.
For remote streaming away from home I use Tailscale VPN with a subnet router (free software based). It allows you to access your local network from your phone, tablet, or other computers. I use it to view my Jellyfin videos, security cameras, and remote desktop to home servers. Tailscale can be installed on multiple platforms like routers (OPNSense, OpenWRT), Windows, Linux, and Synology. It can be a bit technical to set up, but it's not too difficult. Some routers have a UI that allows for easier configuration, like those from GL.iNet.

Tablos return policy. I am sure many of you will be returning this.

Shipping is always free to residents of the United States. And while we hope you love your Tablo, if you're unhappy for any reason we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. Customers must pay for return shipping. See our store policies page for details.

As you can see their free return shipping costs money smh
I bought my 4 tuner refurbished model from Walmart, it was from Tablo TV, came in like new box, so if you buy from Walmart, you get all the return advantages that Walmart offers. It has been great, and as I mentioned in another post here, has an updated firmware version that is not publicly available, at least not at this time, version 2.2.55. My brother-in-law bought one also and his had the same updated firmware.

For that reason alone (Tablo charges shipping for returns), buy from Amazon or Walmart for their 30-day free return shipping, if needed.

I tried the Tablo 4-tuner model in January 2025. It worked OK at first but over time had issues. Occasionally when opening the app it would state it could not find the Tablo on the network, even though I could see it was online in my router's app (it had an IP assigned) & the Tablo had the "OK" status light illuminated. To fix this I would need to reboot the Tablo, which was frustrating as it was in a different room than the TV. (Since Tablo is a network tuner you place it where your antenna gets the best signal, this is the main selling point..). To work around this issue I hooked up the Tablo to a smart plug, so I could power cycle the plug remotely via the smartplug app if I had to reboot the Tablo.

Maybe I could have lived with that but there were other problems. Sometimes thumbnails would not be marked for recordings, which is a major hassle if you record a long program (like football) and want to skip through to review key plays/score changes. Sometimes the app would crash when playing a recording, which is very disruptive (obviously). So you'd need to restart the app (and hope it could find the Tablo on the network). I also noticed sometimes guide data didn't update. With this device if the guide is out of date you could not watch TV on that channel! A major problem.

There were too many issues.. returned it on day 27 to Amazon. Got an HD HomeRun and it works very well. I have never had an issue where the HD HomeRun can't be located on the network. Plex is a bit clunky as DVR software but it works well enough for what I need. I'd rather use HD HomeRun & Plex than pay Comcast/Xfinity $$ every month.

Check r/tablo on Reddit to see what other users are experiencing. If you are interested in this, go ahead and buy one to try it out. There have been firmware/software updates since January and the product has improved since then, but experiences vary. Another point to consider is that the Tablo comes with free guide data.. why??? Probably because the media company that owns Tablo (E.W. Scripps Company) is selling your viewing data to advertisers.

I've been a Tivo OTA user for many years now and absolutely love it. Before that I used a Directv tivo and my parents had a Tivo in the early 2000's. But they've stopped selling the OTA model so I'm worried about what I'll do when my Edge dies. When I switched from the Roamio to the Edge, I briefly tried the Tablo and the Recast and both had some big issues that made them completely inferior to the Tivo. I know for the Tablo, the issues below were big deals for us.

From Tablo site:
This is such a big defect that makes FF pretty much useless unless the recording is over. Please correct me if this is somehow okay now but I remember you were basically FF'ing blind.
When I used Tablo in January, it worked like this: A show would record. After the recording it would take about 10 minutes per hour of recorded content to create thumbnails. After thumbnails were created, you could then watch the recording with the benefit of thumbnail previews while seeking through the recording (FF/REW).

I used Tablo with a Fire TV stick, one of the few media streamers that lets you watch in-progress recordings from the beginning of the recording. So if you start playing a recording an hour after it began and it has more time to record, you won't have thumbnails available yet. Depending on the show this could be a problem. For an awards show, no big deal but for sports, a big hassle if you just want to see key plays.

So if you know you want the thumbnails you can't watch a long show for up to 30 minutes sometimes after it ends... to give Tablo time to create thumbnails.

That's great because where I live atsc 3.0 has no plans of coming. It's not a thing.
Even if that's the case, why is it good to have less options?

Atsc 3 isn't an option. It's basically useless.
