Ugh, as expected the benefit is getting worse. PayPal only in December? Most people want to buy their Christmas gifts ahead of time and it was helpful that you could use PayPal to pay on many websites. Chase travel is meh at best unless you have a premium (membership fee) card that gives you a better exchange rate for your points. Old Navy or department stores? Not sure many people still shop there anymore - not me.

PayPal only in December sucks. It's been 5% for the entire 4th quarter every year for the last 5+ years. That's the one quarter that I max out every single year.

So I probably won't this year, especially since sales like Black Friday/Cyber Monday won't count anymore.

Department stores should include Macys, Kohls, JC Penny, Nordstorm and a few regionals like Dillards. Perhaps that may help a few during thanksgiving sales.

I am going to max out both my cards with paypal purchases in December.
I will update this post tomorrow once Chase updates their website with more details.

Thanks for the update OP

Looks like Chase has given up on this card. They were copying discover last and now it's just really, really weird, niche categories like something the person at Chase thought up of after their whole department was laid off, rejecting all the market research showing what regular people really use.

My prediction:

Q1 2026 categories: Tijuana sewer bottled water, Prostate exams and 99c store (last week of March only except weekends)

Chase reduces value of points for many on October 27th. That's why deal is so bad until December
