Openwrt compatible. While this is a decent router, wifi 5 is quite dated at this point. The network improvements you get using wifi 6/AX wifi is worth every penny.

Using an extreme test of 100ft, I would fetch about 5mbps of a 250mbps connection. At the same distance, with an AX router, I got 100mbps.

After this, I picked up a few of those ln1301/MX4300 and replaced my old system. My Internet went from ~25mbps throughout the house to 200+. No more disconnects, slow internet, buffering, etc.

I know tons of devices still use wifi 4/5 but I don't think it's worth buying this when we're at wifi 7.

Agreed. Also at this point Belkin/Linksys are the worst. I wish Belkin never acquired Linksys.

good write up..I agree 100% with you. wifi 5 is pretty much dead. if your budget only allows wifi 5, stick to top of the wifi 5 and hard wire is a must. I had some orbi ac3000 and they still dominate some of tplinks early wifi 6 stuff.however wifi 6 is worth its weight in gold. I still set up wifi 6 system because they dirt cheap now for refurbished and even new.wifi 7 is good but still very expensive and even more if u want any kinda dedicated backhaul.

just bought a house... wifi in the finished basement sucks with the provided router. I can hardwire a second router easily. Provider charges $15 for an extended/upgraded router. Could I use this as a basic extender for just the finished basement if I run network cable to it? I know I could do an Ethernet switch, but the cell signal is also trash, so I would like to extend wifi calling as well. eventually I will replace the modem and router, but not for a bit.

Yes you could accomplish this wired for sure, wireless with openwrt.
