Thanks!

I jumped on this earlier today to replace my 6 year old Pro 1000.

FWIW, I tried the IO and absolutely hated it. The stem of the brush head is so wide and cone shaped that it was impossible for me to keep toothpaste from seeping out of my mouth while brushing. God forbid you peak the brush head out of your mouth for a nano second while it was on, or your mirror and everything else within about 8 feet is covered in toothpaste over spray. I had no issues with the brushing results/quality of cleaning, but couldn't get comfortable using it and found it too messy. I threw mine away after a few months in a fit of anger after spraying my fresh shirt with toothpaste for probably the 5th time.
You know your thumb naturally rests on the power/pause button? All electric brushes have holes in the head by design that causes some form of leak around your mouth. Wait, don't manual brushes get toothpaste on your lips/face?
I use an electric brush, and have used multiple Oral B and Sonicare models over the past few decades. The IO is the only one I have ever tried that I hated. And, no...I never found manual brushes prone to making a mess of anything.

How is this model compared to the Oral B iO 2? Target has it for the same price
The Smart 5000 is better.

The iO 2 is a more basic model with just oscillation and rotation of the brush head, comparable to the Pro 500 line.

The Smart 5000 adds pulsation, like the iO 3 and up (iO call it micro-vibration). The Smart 5000 also includes more modes, bluetooth, and a travel case (the travel case is nice to have).

For the best cleaning, you want the Smart 1000 or higher or the iO 3 or higher.

I have this one, but would get the iO now, Oral B could stop supporting accessories for this model.
Selling brush heads is how they make money. I expect they're going to keep making brush heads for quite some time.
