I was looking at this for my garden. This one looks better though, same gauge, height, length but it's PVC coated which I wanted for weather protection. Only $4 more. I am debating whether to get 48" or 60" (different brand).
I have watched it keep groundhogs from getting into my garden, though. You could tell it was frustrated that it couldn't bypass the makeshift fence I had made
How did you know it was frustrated? Pacing back and forth muttering and smoking a Winston?

this deal isn't great but not bad... I've purchased these in the past but the 1/4" instead of 1/2". The 1/2" shoudl be fine for garden beds but i used these to roll out on the ground to help w/gophers under a layer of DG, packed sand depending on the project.
do you need coated so it doesn't corrode or is galvanized enough?
I'd def go that route for grass but i've since given up on grass after 3 seasons (99% cause of the gophers; 1% cause of the lack of rain out here!) because of the layers, DG, sand a base layer wanted to keep this as cost effective as possible

I just watched it go at it from the window to see how strong the hardware cloth really was. At first it just tried to pull at the wire, but when it realized it couldn't simply tug the wire out or apart it started wildly pulling at the wire like you would see a dog with a toy. I eventually just scared it off because the only thing holding the cloth to the ground was some tent spikes that would likely get pulled out before the hardware cloth gave.Real protection would have been to bury the cloth, but it's worked well enough, and the only animals that got in after that were mice and voles, which had different ways to get in since they were smaller.
I think it preferred Marlboro, though
Yeah, my "whistle pigs" behave the exact same way! They definitely do prefer Marlboro's!
For the mice, try putting a "3" gallon bucket in there with about 3-4 inches of water in the bottom and a bit of a ramp to one side, like a rock, for mice to climb onto. You wouldn't believe how many times I've gone into my chicken house to find a mouse in the bottom, unable to get out of the water. My record in a dry summer has been 5 mice in one bucket from one night. Since my neighbors learned to better control their feed, I haven't had much of a problem.
Voles! That's another thing! My Aussie dogs get pleasure out of digging them out. They've gotten pretty good at chasing them down, but it leaves a bit of a dirt mess, and when I fence off garden areas from the milk goats, I may have a problem occasionally.
Sweet. Just in time for my anniversary. Perfect gift for our 23rd. She's going to love it.

If they really find it repugnant, you can be fairly certain their future doesn't look very bright! ð I'm twice widowed and presently single, and I loved both my wives to the end, so let the remarks fly!ðĪŠ
This is what I use for my new chicks. As soon as they hatch from the incubator, I put them in a brooder with 1/2' hardware cloth for the bottom floor. It's the perfect size allowing the persistent poop to fall through so that they keep a fairly clean floor. The size is great for all but the smallest chicks, which you may need to watch for the first couple of days. Only a few times in many hundreds of chicks have I had to rescue a stuck foot. The 1/4" hardware cloth is much too small for poop to fall through and doesn't work at all but the 1/2" is perfect for this use even though it doesn't seem that it will be at first but when you watch how well the chicks handle it, you will understand. ðĨ ðĨ ðĨ ðĨ
Nice deal, thanks op!
I didn't order this exact version of wire. I ordered the vinyl-coated 4' x 100' instead this time. I got a better price and I'm hoping it will be as high a quality. I'm pretty sure from the reviews that I'll be happy. Order Summary

understood but you can get galvanized (zinc coating) with PVC coating for added protection. I am wondering if it's worth getting the extra for my garden.

It's $100/roll so I think getting 10 years out is pretty ok no matter how it goes! You probably spend more in 10 years on fertilizer and bug spray then replacing hardware cloth! I have galvanized hardware cloth around my chicken run, it is 5+ years old and looks brand new zero rust on it and it looks the same as the day it was installed. I'd say only go with additional PVC coating if you prefer the look. even to years later if some parts did decide to start rusting I would get a paint sprayer and just paint it with some Rust-oleum and I would expect it to last another 10 years after that.

mine is going around the chicken run and into the ground. I haven't dug the ground up but I don't see wire broken and rusted at the entry point to the ground so it seems to last pretty well now one company can make great stuf fand another bad or there can be bad runs so no guarantee you get 10 years but I would expect a decent lifespan out of it.
