Can't speak for these exact units but in my experience, it's the cells that these solar units use that are cheap. when I'm buying I actually look for units that take standard AA cells (cheapest to replace) and change them out before putting anything in service. You can also increase the mah and make them last longer. Once a year I'll bring the lights in and recharge the batteries (again, regular AA cells so recharging is easy).

Also here you're actively stepping on the solar panels, that can't be good for longevity.
