What's the point?

SSDs are inherently drop resistant, and who takes an ssd on a boat or in there bathtub?

Many SSD enclosures are faster and cheaper.

Some time ago, the bridge chipsbused in these had problems requiring the iser tp periodically disconnect amd reconnect the drive or face very slow transfer rates.

Does anyone know if that chip was ever fixed with a firmware update or if Asus switched to a different chip in these units?

I have not found reviews or the asus website publishing any incormation on the chipset used.

People who go outside and record their outings do exactly that. You record to a phone and offload the footage. Some people even get paid for it.I'm not sure what a "there bathtub" is, but I don't think that's involved.
